If you're anxious about exposure then festivals right now are probably not worth attending even if you don't plan on getting on a coach. I don't see how a coach journey was a make or break.

everything else felt like I had some control on distance / keeping space / wearing my mask”

To be fair @Unreal did explain exactly why a coach journey was the make or break.

Because you have control over keeping your distance at other points, outdoors + masked + socially distanced + double vaxxed is about as safe as any activity at this point, no? I’d maintain it was safe barring the coach home, which I knew in advance, but managed to persuade myself otherwise. I’m only sharing my experience as I have seen others in the same headspace I was in before the trip. Of course it’s each to their own and we have to live our lives, im sharing that the coach did not feel safe for anyone who might end up in the situation I did for four hours on Sunday night surrounded by maskless coughing people — massively regretting thinking it would be safe.

i would still, on balance, say for those without health concerns and who are double vaxxed (I’m young and have no underlying health conditions) it was probably safe, just didn’t feel it. If you are unsure about the coach, look to alternatives or know it wasn’t the masked up experience I had anticipated! Definitely do not want to put anyone off but perhaps it’s good to know in advance what to expect. I wish I had been a bit more realistic, I probably would’ve taken the train home during the day on Sunday.

This has reminded me of something from yesterday's EOTR account tweet thread of important information: "Please be ready to show your (Covid Pass) proof upon arrival in your vehicle". The actual Covid info page recommends "you have it ready to show at the entry gates."

Does that mean they're doing the checks actually on the gate? Because that's going to clog up the approach roads even further than usual. What about those on the coaches?

coach passengers are getting checked before they board, according to something I read on the EOTR site/mail

I have T1 diabetes but I'm young and double vaxxed. Public transport has been like this forever when I was in Sheffield. I'd have had to not travel by public transport for months to avoid it. Each to their own but I'm finding it hard to believe that Green Man had good social distancing based on images I've seen. Yes you're stuck on a coach, but that's just public transport ?

I live in a city and can avoid public transport. But I don’t have a car so getting to EOTR leaves me no choice but to get on a coach.

Prolonged exposure + Indoors + No masks + People who have been intensely socialising. It’s the perfect conditions for covid spread.

And we have something like the third highest number of cases anywhere in the world and rising…

At least in London, mask wearing is still mandatory. And there isn’t a lot of public transport you’re on for 4+ hours. Exposure risk is proximity x time.

I knew the risks and am not for one minute claiming it could or should have been otherwise. I’m sharing my experience because I saw people on the eFestival forums (I think it was this thread, maybe it was green man) expressing uncertainty about the coach. If I had known what it was like, I would’ve made alternative plans. This also only applies to coach back, on the way there it was fully masked.

and social distancing was very possible throughout, people were very respectful, it was a brilliant atmosphere and well run — I really commend the green man team!

Fwiw, I for a time thought about leaving early via shuttle bus and train and in hindsight would’ve been much more comfortable that way — on train you can move carriage / get off etc. If it’s a viable option for you and you have concerns such as mine (which, mine are, I confess, probably quite unfounded and as much about my own anxiety!) I found everything else very manageable and didn’t feel too stressed. It’s a difficult moment with everyone’s varying perceived risk levels trying to recalibrate to “normal”, but I hope everyone who goes has the most fantastic time!

When I looked at the National Express guidelines it did say people are expected to wear a mask but i see there is some weaseling out where it also says to follow local guidelines and I guess some brightspark in charge over there decided you all don't need masks anymore on public transport?   Anyway I'll be on the bristol coach probably alongside a lot of other international travellers.. it is a potential cocktail of new and scary variants.. so perhaps best wear a mask if you are on that coach for everyone's sake.

There were signs all over the coach saying mask wearing mandatory. I think the brightest spark here is our dear leader in no. 10., providing completely unenforceable guidelines and such confusing messaging that it means people feel such things are no longer necessary.

Also I'd raise it up to the coach company and the festival if you haven't already

I wouldn’t for one minute complain to the coach company or the festival, they did all they could. At the end of the day, all this is now personal choice. Except, of course, for the coach drivers who had no choice in being there, were wearing masks, and probably didn’t feel that arguing with a coach full of people about masks was worth the grief. I just hope none of them have become unwell because some people felt like coughing their way back to ldn without a mask was acceptable …

I'll be on a Bristol coach, wearing a mask throughout.

For once I feel incredibly less guilty about travelling from Devon to the festival in a car alone.

As it is I still intend to:-

Avoid any "front of crowd" / barrier hugging moments

Minimise Big Top time, and stay near ventilation when in there

Really really minimise Tipi time, limitations subject to what the actual conditions are vis a vis one side being opened - but still probably especially miss out the after-midnight sessions

Judge my move times between stages especially ref end of set mass exodus times and especially exiting Garden Stage

And I will mask up when I judge I want to.

I'm double jabbed and fit and all that, but "old", ~70

And..... due to fly to Iceland for a 3 week holiday the following weekend and have to provide a negative test (not just double jabbed).

They say 5000 cases "linked to" Boardmasters - 50000 attended so 45000 presumably (?) didn't

1000 cases "linked" to Latitude - 37000 attended so presumably (?) 36000 didn't

Probably a bit late now but would it be worthwhile having a separate thread for all Covid related discussion and keep this one for discussing acts, line ups, recommendations, clashes and stage times when they are announced?

I realise this may be closing the stable door after the horse has bolted?

Yeah maybe so, apologies for letting it drift into covid chat. I don't think there's much point though now, the festival is in less than a week!

Several reports of many people at Green Man coughing on the coach back and most not wearing masks.

Please can anyone on the coach put a damn mask on! In other countries this would be a given…

OK. But you'll have to read to me because my glasses steam up.

OK, I've finally caved in... after eyeing up the line-up since it dropped and dreaming of End of the Road for years, a particularly appetising Twicket appearing means I'll be joining all you beautiful people in the fields once more to close out what has been a beautiful summer returning to live music! So many favourites to choose from on the line-up as things are, but who are your must-sees for me to check out / people who should I make sure not to miss? Honestly so buzzing to be hopping on the train just as it gears up to leave the station🙂

Welcome to the party. Who are your must see acts at the moment? Just to give us an idea for similar recommendations?
