Corona Virus - Should we be worried?

US oil company Chevron has said it is closing its London office in Canary Wharf over coronavirus fears and has asked staff to work from home for the time being.

Some 300 traders and staff have been sent home, according to reports, after two people returned from holidays in affected areas and displayed symptoms.

A spokeswoman for Chevron told (rag newspaper)We] continue to monitor the situation very closely, utilizing the guidance of international and local health authorities.

"Our primary concern is the health and safety of our employees and we are taking precautionary measures to reduce their risk of exposure.

"Consequently we have requested that our colleagues, based at our Westferry Circus office in London, work from home for the time being."

Ireland v Italy cancelled.

 

For context, Italian rugby is a northern Italian sport - the players almost exclusively all play and live in Northern Italy, and the fans would also be flying from Northern Italy.

Game cancelled under advice from Simon Harris, minister of health (who's a complete clown, but that's not that relevant).

 

This is honestly the first step the Irish govt have taken, as flights were getting in from Northern Italy to Dublin just yesterday and there were no health or medical screenings or questionnaires on arrival.

They do seem to build these things in the most pristine of locations!  Nothing to worry about though, the local cops have a supply of iodine tablets to be issued in the event of a meltdown. Stupid and this is the kind of decisions that are worrying me for Glastonbury. Why not just play the game in Dublin with no fans from Italy?

Italy fans will still fly over if the game is happening, flights are already booked.

It's all about risk reduction.

They may still play the game a different time.

By the time they tried to evacuate the cities, it was already too late.

The infection was everywhere.

The army blockades were overrun.

And that's when the exodus started.

The day before broadcasting stopped, there were reports of infection in Paris and New York.

We didn't hear anything more after that.

To be honest, surely a more long term strategy is that these games are played behind closed doors? Doesn't sound like this thing is gonna go away any time soon and short of suspending all international sport, that'll be the only sustainable option.

Italians still have flights and hotels booked. Would be more likely to turn up in Dublin if the game is on, even just to watch from a pub. If its postponed they're more likely to try postpone their visit until its rescheduled.

We don't want them here anyway. With their beautiful women, their amazing food and their great wine.

it's hardly the "first step they've taken", save that type of nonsense for the barstool thicks who whinge about literally everything.

the WHO doesn't recommend airport screening, as it's a waste of resources, especially during flu season, and can take up to 14 days for the symptoms to show. it's basically a waste of time.

Maybe in the minority, but I feel like a group of Glastonbury fans worrying about the fest being cancelled only adds fuel to the fire and may have influence if they feel the public is worried about events like this taking place?

If them figures are correct and the number of cases is going down in the worst affected area of China and this is after a month? We should be laughin’ by June. Surely. Please God, I’ve just bought a new tent 😂
