Found out earlier my mum and dad got the jab the other day (they didn't think to mention it at the time - classic parents). Anyway, good news as they're not in their 70s yet, so things must be moving ahead well (Bristol). They must have been bumped up because of their various ailments, so that's a relief. Mum had a few side effects but is fine now.

My brother had had it too (care worker, Hove).

As a phone nerd I’m curious to know what it’s like? The camera bit looks bit weird in pictures but what is it like in person?

It’s no iPhone though 😉

I've received my first volunteer shifts through for my local vaccination centre 🙂 Thurs, Fri, Sat, Mon. I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will do me good to witness the progress with the vaccine roll out first hand.

excellent news ... Ive had a phone call today confirming my availability ... it shows that there is still plenty of capacity to ramp the jab numbers up ... welcome to the forum 🙂

Good stuff!

Is that stewarding or actually doing the stabby needle stuff?

My mum ( in Bristol) got a phone call on Friday, Jabbed on Saturday, she’s 72 , that’s a worry off my mind 🙂

I hope you don't get offended by this Big durbs, but I read you post above in a Finbarr Saunders kind of way initially. Now I'm back from the Planet Puerile, let me tell you that is good news. My mom's had her jab too, so I know what it means to have that ease of mind. 🙂

Stewarding 🙂. I'm definitely not the right candidate for the stabby needle stuff!

I've been told it will involve registering people on arrival, managing any queues, and monitoring those who have been vaccinated for a period afterwards to make sure everything is ok. Sounds fairly straightforward. The one thing they have kept reiterating to me is to dress warmly. I think if I'm on queue duty it will involve hours outside at a time. But I'm more than happy to do anything. It will be exciting for me to have a change of scenery from my house!

That's not a phone, it's a spaceship!

Me and my mobile phone aren't getting on. I never wanted a smart phone, but reluctantly had to accept being given one, as I need to keep in touch with my brothers about my mom, who is suffering the onset of dementia. Well, she not the only one - that fucking phone of mine is playing silly bastards with me. Mind you, it doesn't help that I can't for the life of me remember my own password. Doh!

OK cool. I ask as I've registered for vaccine stewarding but it's all a bit quiet here!  Do you know if the stewarding is based on the distance you set for tasks in the NHS app? Or do they cast the net a bit wider for stewarding?

I can't find a straight answer anywhere on the FAQs!

It seems like there's more than one route and a bit messy (or to phrase it more fairly, not nationally coordinated) - I'd suggest check the web sites & social media of your local CCGs and NHS Trusts to see if they're recruiting directly.

I've registered with the App but the only thing that's come up has been lots of shifts in the next county over, nothing from any of my local trusts or CCGs.

After a bit of searching I found a different page advertised by the local CCG - so registered with them last Thursday and am waiting to hear back.

Yes, I second this. I registered via the app but didn't hear anything for over 2 weeks. I then noticed on my borough website an ad for volunteers and applied directly to them. It was very straightforward, 1 application and then a phone call to discuss the role and my availability. A few days ago I did receive notification that my application was accepted via the app but because I'm liaising directly with my vaccination centre now, I haven't logged in to use it.
