That's a fairly packed out 24 hours, there's no denying. I think you could have only done more if you'd shoved a broom up your arse, which would have allowed you to sweep the floor while you were getting through that lot.

Regarding houses - will you be getting a report on the new house that you have put in an accepted bid on? You ought to if you were considering saving money in that area. Unless you know about construction / houses etc, that is. If you do get a report, I can have a look at it if you are in any doubt about something within the report.

Talking of which, my good news for the day is that I managed to win a case against two large organisations (one within the housing sector and one an insurance company) for a mate of mine. They have now agreed to compensate him £5K, which has just gone into his account, as well as rectify the issue with their property and also repair and fully redecorate etc my mate's house. This is for the period 2015 to 2019. What they now realise is that the one organization (the housing one) has left it wide open for me to make a pro rata claim for another 14 years of their negligence. And rightly so - they have allowed their property to pour water in through the gable wall of my mates house since 2004. They repeatedly denied it was their responsibility to him for a period of years. A lot of years. anyway that 'notion' has since been reversed. very, very much a David & Goliath battle, which is only reached base camp 1 after me being involved for the last 2 years with it. The amount of money that they have spent on 'experts' on trying to defend the claim is insane. Especially given that every one of them reported that it to their clients that it was them that was to blame.

I got very lucky one day when one party responded to an email from me and accidently including an email trail from all the parties and 'consultants' that were involved. The very top specialist had written to them saying that it was inevitable that they would lose in any court action. I so wanted to take them to court but neither my mate nor me had the 'initial' £7K handy to do so. We could have gone with a no win / no fee solicitor, but we (I) had done all the work already, and they'd have taken a huge chunk. Anyway, my friend was buckling and needed the £5K, so the option above had to be executed. I still hold out hope of being able to privately finance a court action case for those other 14 years. However, i would be looking to add some further legislation into the mix at that point, so as to not be financially limited to the 'pro rata' precedent of the already agreed upon compensation.

If you are still with me at this point then let me congratulate you, and thank you - and commiserate with you. God but that was shockingly dull. I think that we all deserve a drink now for having been into battle. Yes, a little drinkey woo!

Excellent work, as long as I have lived the housing market and associated problems have caused misery. There’s always someone trying to screw over someone else that can wreck their lives.   At least up here when an offer is accepted that usually is it.  Enjoy a drink!

I’ve done it every day since the gig since I’ve been back at work just don’t want any chance of further spread … although I may have gone slightly early for the lfts to catch it , and I told a few colleagues I was off to the gig … one said I was absolutely mad for going … although I very much expect that she never goes to gigs anyway 🙂

Thanks yog will definately bare you  in mind  when I do … I’m very fortunate in that regard as I had some very decent advice from a couple of other efest members along with a bit of a feeling that the last place had just a few 2 many issues  🙂 very worthwhile to get the survey though which I will be doing once more

Cheers. It actually is a big deal because my mate has faced corporate negligence for so many years that he has told me that it has, and remains to affect his mental health. He told me that it is evidenced in document form from a while after the 'happening' of his purchase of the property. And believe me, that is a 'happening'. It would appear that he kept on mentioning to his doctor throughout the years that the damp issue from next door was doing his head in. And having seen the situation I can say 'and so it would too'. and who are his neighbours? A very large (and, in my opinion) totally inept and unaccountable corporate entity, which goes under the guise of a sociably responsible housing association. They take government funding and achieve charitable status, but are exempt from Freedom of Information requests. There is no transparency. There is ineptness though. It would be fair to say that there exists lashings of ineptness.

I recall seeing a mate sniff glue when I was about 16 or 17. It was at his house and his parents had gone on holiday and there was no booze available. I watched him pour the strong glue into an old (then new) Tesco bag like this one;

He then proceeded to put one of the4 two handles over each of his ears, so that he kind of resembled a horse with it's food bag attached to it's nose. Then he started laughing a bit and walking around the back garden. Then he walked straight into his parents fish pond and had to be helped out. This was in the days before 24 hour shops selling alcohol. we'd been to the pub but not bought any booze for after the pub. well, we were only 16 or 17, and you learn as you go along, don't you!

up here the  bag of choice was an empty pickled onion crisp bag. Horrible habit but the  popularisation of buckfast has taken over from gluesniffing as the choice of the ned.

Fortunately I've never deliberately sniffed glue, or felt the desire to. However, when i used to work for the 'man' I worked from home for a long period of years. There was a small bedroom in the then house that I used as my office. However, I also begain to use it as a sort of art studio too. Much of 'my' art uses all sorts of glue and adhesives. I once had a tin of petroleum based 'sticky stuff' that I'd never opened in that room. We (my wife and I) sort of had a friend who was a qualified anaesthetist. Anyway, he came into my office one day to have a look around at my art on the walls, he spotted the tin of adhesive, took it off the shelf, read the contents, and told me never to use it in any confined environment. He went on to tell me that I would 'seriously' run the risk of a serious medical fault if I were to use it in that room - which I probably wasn't going to do, as even I knew it was mental stuff.

Anyway, those other glues in that confined room must have sent me mad on several occasions. I still have (and probably always will) a complete array of glue's for different 'problems'. I've even got 5 tubes of black adhesive that will withstand temperatures of about 260 degrees, or some such. 

So there you have it - my glue story. Which is now stuck in your mind.

Really looking forward to seeing this. I'd never even heard of the Harlem festival until last year, and that was when discussing this film. Amazing (but let's be honest, not that amazing) that this never became the cultural touchstone that Woodstock did

Hi Yog, yeah I had a read of the full story after I saw your post. Excellent stuff, I like how he blamed “the lousy drink”.

An old fella in my local always likes to advise everyone that “ the drink is a long apprenticeship “ especially if they are hungover.

Very wise words I always think.
