my nuffield is £50 😡

the doctor would refer me to any gym i wanted, i picked the council-run leisure centre as its within easy reach, without needing a taxi I spend £40  on taxi's all the other times i go out exercising.

i got my doc to refer me to the local gym, and that's all sorted now, and I'm booked in for an assessment  and first session next Thursday, I'm chuffed its sorted but frustrated that i have to wait a week.

the plan is that it'll get me stronger so that i can walk unaided, without a stick or wheelchair. i can just about do that now, but i don't feel safe doing it, feels like i could fall over any minute, so i don't do it too much to make sure i don't fall.

its only £16 a month for full use of the leisure centre, and with the personal trainer, no idea if that's cheap or not, seems cheap to me.

Well done and good luck

The physio videos I did with uwe's physio lecturer a year ago are finally online, but hidden at the moment not sure why they're hidden. I look a right sad  old codger, because I am an old codger, getting old sucks.

It so does, plus other people getting old and having health issues too.

Do you mind me asking about the arm?  My mum has one that functions, but is much less good than it was - is yours like that or it's good for nowt and you need to keep it out the way?

That’s good news, it’s great to have a goal to aim for. I’m lucky that I don’t currently have health issues, after a few problems years ago.  I find that the main thing I have to contend with is getting motivated over the cold winter months, bearing in mind I prefer hill walking as a form of exercise. I’ve never been into gyms. I reckon that’s a very decent price.

Blooming heck that does sound like a logistical challenge with many tasks - not least if you're trying to do something you obviously can't use the other arm to keep it out of the way!

cant cut food, can't tie laces, doing some stuff on a computer keyboard if awkward. cant do coats up. learning to live with one working arm is a challenge, as i have to learn how to do thibngs differently (e.g. cut food with the side of my fork, for instance.; that one is pretty easy, doesn't work for steak).

The real bastard is shoe laces, made worse because its been difficult getting shoes that fit over the horrid support boot I need to wear on my leg, best option I have are sandles as the velcro on those works well instead of laces, I haven't been able to find any velcro shoes that will fit over my leg brace. I've found some elastic laces but they don't work great

My work boots have a dial to tighten the wire like laces, maybe something similar would work ?

thanks will try to find something like that.

I'm not sure it'll work for you, as it still may be too much like regular laces - but I've fitted something called Lock Laces to my festival boots - basically they're elasticated laces, with a widget for adjusting their fit.

Works well for me but I'm not sure about effectively one handed.
