This. The constant knocking of Chris Martin on here is so tiresome.

If you can’t laugh at Chris Martin then what is the point of being here?

I don’t think anyone is saying Martin is a bad person in any way. It’s just his seeming omnipresence at Glastonbury that amuses us.

I take the piss on Coldplay ... but ive not missed a coldplay headline set yet .... they've done some incredible innovative visuals over the years  and that tribute to Viola Beach was amazing and had me welling up ..... its tradition to laugh about how often they appear still though :)

Surely losing any one of Kendrick, Macca or Taylor and getting Billie Eilish instead would be the biggest downgrade in history. It's like getting kicked in the bollocks, and then having someone post it on youtube to rub it in.

I'd sooner they got Coldplay back, and that's from someone who didn't bother to see them the last 3 times they played.

If Billie Eilish wasn't one of the hottest pop stars on the planet then yes, huge downgrade.

The grim spectre of Genesis on the Huey show reminds me that they may well be in the mix.

Do they really fit into Glastonbury’s demographic anymore? Wouldn’t be that odd to see them in the boring old fart ELO slot, but as a headliner I can’t see there being a lot of interest.

Genesis are an odd one... I personally would really like to see them, but the cost of tickets on the forthcoming tour is enough to put me off. So, a festival slot would be ideal. I cannot imagine they'd take anything less than headliner, but agree that they probably wouldn't be big enough to headline Glastonbury. So they won't be there. It's odd that Fleetwood Mac seem so credible as headliners, but Genesis so unlikely...

I think they'd be a great fit for IOW, but that's not going to happen either.

I don't think Billie is ready  to headline yet. BST and Reading/Leeds yes, but not Glastonbury. She's had one album and yeah it was a success, but I doubt sales figures are all they look at when booking headliners.

Yeah, Stormzy headlined with just one album too, but his cultural importance in Britain is much bigger. His background, his activism and philanthropy, helping to bring grime and black British music back into the spotlight, etc. Meanwhile Billie is just another privileged white girl from a wealthy family that's made s successful pop album.

Have any non-British acts headlined with just one album?

She will likely have some new material by next year though.

And even still, she's had two singles since the last record. One of which was big and the other was mahoosive.

Happy to agree to disagree - I just think even without a new record she's still one of the most obvious replacements with Gaga and Arctic Monkeys. She's the type of act I think Emily would want to book and if you can bag one of the hottest pop stars on the planet as a backup, you'd be doing pretty good.

I fully agree, done the Bond song, massive, probably has new material next year, if she was playing Sunday this year it would have been a favour to sub a festival and an easy bump up due to the festival rescheduling next year. If she was booked and Taylor is gone I would bet she's our Sunday 2021 headliner and it would be class to see how she does.

I think the point is that he’s not omnipresent though? It’s not exactly a clever joke. He appeared in what, 2 sets last year? Just don’t really get it and as I said, it’s pretty tiresome to see every other comment about it whenever Coldplay come up.

I think there's something generally special about an artist who rises so fast, they're in the fold for headlining the biggest festival on earth within 2 years of their breakout. Oasis 95 and Arctics 07 the last true examples of this.

Both were notoriously wack shows though.

Fundamentally, I want Kendrick, Macca and Taylor back. It was an outstanding trio and gruelling to lose them.

But if we do have to replace one or two, I'd rather see Billie step in than The 1975, Arctics, Fleetwood or even Gaga. I think bringing a new name into the headliner pool who is having a capital-M Moment in the wider culture is a worthy pursuit, and marks out the 2020s to be as adventurous in booking policy as the 2010s were.

Which is what we all want, essentially: our favourite fest to keep punching at an extraordinarily high level.

Agree with pretty much all of this, except I'd be equally happy with Billie or Gaga. Although I couldn't possibly agree more with the part in bold.

Great use of 'clemency'.

I dunno. Maybe I just came away a bit bummed out by his Q&A tour, which was ghastly.  And Distant Sky is up there with the best records he's ever released. Maybe I just think headlining the Pymild is too much of a square peg / round hole scenario. Even as a card carrying, old school, bring back Mick Harvey type, I can't see it being the way I'd want to conclude a day at the G.
