John the Moth
First episode of Lovecraft Country was great! Mrs Moth is binging ‘The Fall’, I’ve already seen the first 2 seasons when it came out but enjoying it again. Need to find time for ‘Band of Brothers’ which I never saw. You're in for a right treat, twas my highlight of last year. Quite hyped for series two. Mrs P isn't normally one for dark and / or violent media, but the humour won her over. Some of Billy Butcher's one liners are genius. None of the libraries here have the comic, so I might stump up the money and pay for it soon. Got into reading Lovecraft over the last couple of years. I know the context is travelling across 50s America, how much of it is social commentary and how much is Lovecraft mythos? Nothing wrong with social commentary obvs, just more interested in the weird old ones stuff

Ok that's an interesting approach then. Reading up on some his thoughts on that are pretty grim

It was quite the surprise 😄 Just started Brave New World too and will certainly be watching the rest of them after a promising first episode. (oh, and Band of Brothers is just excellent so get it done! 👍 )

Nothing wrong with social commentary obvs, just more interested in the weird old ones stuff I’ve recently read the book and at this point, on evidence of the first episode, I’m gonna assume the tv show follows it relatively closely. With that in mind, I think the show is neither particularly Lovecraftian nor social commentary. Let me attempt to explain... Racism is pretty prevalent in the show/book but (and I hope I can express this properly) there’s no focussed point-making about how terrible the characters plight is nor any sense of a revolutionary drive to improve their lot. Daily racism is just a fact of the characters lives that they have to find ways to mitigate while maintaining their sense of self worth. So not acceptance of daily racism... more acknowledgement. It’s done very well, not sure I can do it justice. As for weirdness, oh boy there’s plenty of that... and monsters. Just not what you would normally associate with Lovecraft. It riffs on a wide range of early 20th century genre fiction: Burroughs, Bradbury, etc. in fact I’d say the feel is closer to Dennis Wheatley than Lovecraft, but HPL hooks in better to the racism aspects due to his views. edit: oh and the music is superb! HeyPorter
After rewatching all of Curb with the other half we felt it was the right time to go back to Seinfeld and after smashing that we’re now getting through The Larry Sanders Shows. Had the boxset as a gift a while ago and only caught a bit of it late night on BBC2 in the 90s, sublime stuff.
Quark
If you've got Sky there's a lot of good stuff on the new Sky Documentaries channel. Just watched a really good one from a few years ago about Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I do like a good documentary.

Just amazing TV that I loved Chernobyl, only watched it for the first time recently. Luckily had been told in advance about that episode so i had my eyes shut & ears covered for most of it to prevent crying myself to sleep for months. I shit you not Welly, when we watched it Mrs Q was on the sofa with a cushion over her face and the TV on mute, and I had to tell her when to watch again. It was that serious that I didn't even consider messing with her and getting her to look early. We can't watch I Am Legend Ever again. Entire human race wiped out? Fuck 'em. Dog getting killed? Tears for weeks.

Plenty of Rip Torn is always a good thing, quite a few of my favourite actors pop up in it too like Dean Winters and Will Arnett. May have to have to finally give it a proper go. Years ago I saw all the adverts on film 4 or whatever for Marley and Me.. thought it was just gonna be a nice film about a naughty dog. Half way through i started crying and i didn't stop for about a month! Oh and a Horse called Pete (or something) about a race horse... my boyfriend made me watch it and regretted that as soon as he realised.. he also took me to watch the new Dumbo and i just cried the whole way thru.. i'm surprised he hasn't got rid of me really

Quark
If you like 30 Rock I'd recommend checking out Better Off Ted, think it's on Amazon Prime and not sure about other channels. Ran for a couple of series in 2009/10. Very funny, had really good ratings but low viewing figures so got cancelled after two series.
