It's the National Day of Catalonia that weekend. No idea if that means all hotels are more expensive that weekend, doubt it but it's possible or could be some other event. Thedestroyer
The official start date of the festival is June 2nd so we should receive an update today

kingcrawler
Definitely the right decision. I’m not convinced a September festival would have been possible this year and if it had happened it wouldn’t have been the same Primavera we know. Looks like we’re getting the lineup in June which is exciting, roll on 2022!
scatteredscreens
Two stellar line ups down the pan, but an inevitable decision, let's hope 2022s line up pulls through - I'm sure it will

Lets see if the UK can actually pull off festivals or if we are looking at another season without them. xxialac
A sad day. I'm still sure big outdoor events will be possible in September. But maybe not 65,000 people ones.
jannybruck
Ah well, no surprise but still disappointing. It'll be gutting for them to watch the UK festivals (potentially) go ahead this summer while they've missed out on two years' worth of cash at this point. Have a couple of unused flights I probably won't be able to cancel, so might just go over for the weekend anyway if travel allows.
FloorFiller
Thank god for that! Definitely the right decision and a bit of a weight off my mind. Looking forward to that 2022 lineup - I’ve no doubt it’ll be killer.
FloorFiller
What are the 2022 dates then do we know?
xxialac
Maybe they could do 2 next year to make up for it? I'm sure they'll do something pretty decent in September but not so international I guess.

It has certainly been a long wait ever since Pavement were first announced and I decided I had to go 😄 Praying to god that they’re back and we get a lineup just as strong as the two we’ve lost. Gilgamesh69
So let's say they start the lineup from scratch again. Who do you hope to see there? I'm hoping the Nine Inch Nails and Portishead rumours are true. Dua Lipa for a big pop act. Also Mogwai, Spiritualized, and Nick Cave & Warren Ellis please
Martin_89
Well, time to find a new hotel, again, and hype the next lineup!
jannybruck
I fear they're probably going to get a lot more refund requests this year than last year – plenty of people (particularly from the UK) are going to want money freed up to do other stuff this summer. Sitting on a ticket for yet another year might be too much of an ask for a lot of the more casual Primavera goers, unless the lineup's sensational. Perhaps the new normal is some kind of Fantasy Festival League. We never get to go to another festival, but just get to look at posters of bands and listen on Spotify.
livenstu
Never thought I'd be pleased to see a Primavera cancellation press release but there we go. The best decision they could have made. 2022, fresh start. Can't wait!

However I wouldn't mind seeing some new additions. As mentioned before, Bad Bunny could have become way too expensive by now, being one of the biggest global popstars of the hour. I think that legacy acts like Portieshead, NIN or Mbv will not really be in the mix before 2023. They'd wanna get themselves very special spots on festivals and not throw themelves in the mayhem that 2022 season will be.
