Nesser
That Reddit user is taking the info from a guy from another forum known for his absurd, no-funny-at-all humor sense, so take it with a pinch of salt because he may be trolling. Gabi and him have colaborated in the past but I find it weird that he's building hype for another postponement given the current state of things. Wouldn't be surprised if they announced something tomorrow tbqf, but I really really hope they have the guts to face the situation and not another hey guys we're trying this thing again! What else can they do other than to say 'we trying again' in the face of an evolving pandemic and no government guarantees?

Postponement to 2022 which is the only logical thing to do. We have to face it, with the mutants gaining ground rapidly in continental Europe and the lowered efficacy of some vaccines against them, people tired of lockdown and governments unwilling to go into a proper shutdown to stop the spread, 2021 is completely off the table.

If the mutants were 'gaining ground rapidly', wouldn't the numbers in continental Europe be rising? Here in Spain they are falling and fast - look at the trend line.

The mutants won`t have disappeared in 2022. There simply needs to be a (long term) concept for artists, promotors and festival-organizers because nobody can tell now if 2022 will be be any better. Here in Spain they are falling and fast - look at the trend line. This is a common - and understandable - misconception. As measures across Europe are relatively strict right now, numbers decline overall. However underneath this graph you'll find a steeply rising one for the mutant which is - at least for now - not significant enough in terms of absolute numbers to make the cases climp again. But we'll reach a point where exactly that will happen in many countries, depending on national and local measures of course.

Far from it. Shops are open, restaurants open including inside dining, schools open, cinemas open, gyms open, travel within one's region possible. And the numbers are going down all the while they have been relaxing restrictions.

I do not know the proportion of the British mutation in Spain, but in many other places it is already becoming dominant. In Germany it now makes up around 20% of cases, with its R-value (the number of people one infected person infects) is approximately 1.09 compared to 0.7 for the original variant. That is highly problematic, since any rate above 1 means numbers will rise eventually.

Say there is no option to gather 65k people without masks or social distancing in 2021, announce the possibility to transfer your 2020 ticket to 2022/refund your ticket and tease new events for this year in compliance with the restrictions regarding capacity: Nits del Forum Expanded/Primavera Weekender/whatever. I have the feeling things are going in the right direction. Of course there will be 'mutants', but that word sounds scarier than it is. Worldwide there's a very clear drop in new cases already. We knew by last that this virus will be around even this fall. And in 2023 too. And heck, in 2031 as well.

Even with the "lowered efficacy" all the indications are that the main vaccines will stop almost 100% of moderate/serious illness/hospitalisations and deaths, even with different variants. The "lowered" part that is being reported means that it's not going to be wiped out completely, but it will be a lot harder to catch, and for most vaccinated people it will be mild or no symptoms. Unless something new happens, it's looking like we'll be in a position where we can live with Covid.
Ohjesus
A friend who runs a UK fest in May is about to cancel, in a move that will surprise no one... Edited February 18, 2021 by Ohjesus

His condition went worse in a short time because they didn't want to put him in hospital until he gets negative covid test. And the same situation was with my mom in may last year. They both had a pulmonary embolism. And most important, they didn't have the deadliest virus in history, called corona. There’s no Covid on Mars. Nesser
Mobile World Congress goes ahead halving its capacity and being a "touchless" event. Very similar to what we can expect at a festival, so great news. Meanwhile, a totally unrelated event like Hellfest has been cancelled. https://www.ouest-france.fr/pays-de-la-loire/nantes-44000/entretien-hellfest-ben-barbaud-confirme-que-le-hellfest-2021-n-aura-pas-lieu-7159602
