Only upside is that given how quick the last 4 years have gone, it'll be 2028 before you know it and he can't run again. And if he does decide he's too important to abide by the 2 term limits thing, he'll be older than Biden was now so there's an argument he probably will have to be ushered aside.

Though that will be a test as to what strength in depth that cause has. Or if anyone can be somehow capable of evading consequence to even a tenth of the times that arse has.

Yes, I think his health will decline quite rapidly. Only two years to the senate elections. Then the contest is on to be the next candidate. His populism needs a character like his to enthuse people. I'm not sure there is a natural successor.

Yup, this particular brand of conservatism dies with Trump. Whoever their next guy is (Vance you’d assume) just isn’t Trump and will struggle to keep up the same level of enthusiasm amongst certain demographics. Dems need to get a good candidate in order (Newsom or Shapiro?) for in four years time to combat the dregs of MAGA.

Yeah, insanely off, as we’re almost all of the rest. In fact, the only ones that seemed to get it right were the right wing polls that I’ve been disparaging all along. Trump is just such an enigma that pollsters and political experts have just been totally left in the dirt by him nonstop. Truly one of a kind.

The Selzer poll was an outlier. The swing state results are within the margin of error of those mainstream 50/50 polls. Trump won them all so his vote was underestimated but only by about 2%. The Electoral College totals flatter Trump but he didn't win every state by a big margin.

You joke?  TBH could well be Leon or Tucker Carlson. But... it  is usually the case that these kind of cult-of-personality types don't transfer their following on to their successors.

Can't be Musk as born outside US...he'll have to stick to his toy rockets.

I don't know much about Carlson or Rogan as not my bag, I just know that Rogan has this massive following with poor aggrieved bigoted men, and that Carlson is a Putin loving prick....so both good candidates I guess.

Who knows who will come along. Not many people would have thought Trump would be so popular a decade ago when he was just being a rude c**t, but here we are the rude c**t is president again.

Yeah even those guys just don’t have the ‘it’ factor that Trump does, and even his shithead kids don’t seem nearly as well liked as him (although I wouldn’t be surprised to see Baron run at some point, if he were that way inclined). Nobody else in the Republican roster comes close to Trump and politics will go back to being far more ‘normal’ once he gone, albeit with the stink of MAGA attached to it for a few years after.

Given how things are going, it's possible they could change that rule before the next election.

Was just about to say this. Nothing stopping him trying to change the constitution with control of the senate and house… Far fetched yes but it’s trump.

Good to see Trump win although I didn't mind Sleepy Joe either as he was a proud Irishman. I feel I have more in common with Trump supporters than the people who would vote Harris.

Irish people only seem to like presidents when they are Irish Catholic. My great grandfather had a photo of JFK on the wall.

Trump's mother was from the islands of Scotland so his heritage is Gaelic too just like us.

Allowing a non American to be president seems like the last thing Republicans would want given everything they stand for.

Also Musk basically gets whatever he wants with Trump and Vance in the White House anyway so he doesn’t really need it. He went all in on Trump and it paid off.

Musk would be a terrible speaker and debater and a sh*t politician.

I think Vance could probably have a good go...he's smart. He says sh*tty stuff that gets the base riled up...but can seem like a genuinely nice guy too if needs be as he did in debate with Walz. I definitely wouldn't bet against him standing and winning.

Vance will run next time, I'm almost certain (assuming he isn’t already the incumbent president by that point anyway). Dems need to make sure they’ve got somebody good to run against him because as much as I think he’s a prick, he’s clearly good at politics and will be a decent candidate for Republicans following Trump.

Democrats need to find a reason why ordinary working class (or middle america) should vote for them...instead of just don't vote for the scary fascist which obviously doesn't work.

A lot of people seem quite dismissive about Trump voters and I think it’s an issue that people on the left often come across a bit snobby with voters who vote for right wing parties. While the MAGA types will get the most exposure, there will be many who think Trumps a bit of a d*ck, but will make the economy better. That’s a perfectly rationale view, even if I would have voted differently.

Unfortunately a completely uninformed view according to many economists, but Trump screaming that he can fix the economy unfortunately overshadowed that. Who knows, maybe he will fix things, but everything he’s proposing says that won’t be the case.

Different economists will say different things and people will pick and choose. The economy isn’t great at present and it’s normal for voters to switch when that’s the case.

It bodes for a curious question as to what happens in the likely scenario what he does isn't the remedy to economic dysfunction. If that happens and the issues fester for a good chunk of this upcoming term, then what?
