The internal polling must be fairly dire for Kamala Harris for her to not be making a fuss, she's obviously ambitious. I wonder if there's been a Blair-Brown style agreement whereby she'll stay VP, that Biden is the democrats best bet for beating Trump and that he'll stand down a couple of years into the second term to give her a good run at the next election 'safe' in the knowledge that by this point Trump will either be dead, in jail or spontaneously combusted. I haven't really looked too much in the other candidates but over the course of 2023 any notion of a real substantial challenge to Biden seemed to just disappear. I'm not so sure if there is a secret deal for Harris to succeed Biden in 2025-28, but maybe it was just an arrangement that she's best placed given she is at the front of the line of succession. Maybe to demonstrate if he is match fit and sharp enough to fight a Presidential election, Biden needed a more robust primary season as opposed to just having blanket support from a majority of Democrats. charlierc
I heard that a Fox News poll the other day actually had Biden ahead, and lead to Trump whining that Fox News can't be trusted. Which given Fox arguably played a big hand in his rise is a real "bite the hand that feeds you" scenario.

charlierc
Didn't realise the first debate was today. 90 minutes long as well. Can't imagine either one is going to come out of it exactly enhancing their reputation.
steviewevie
Looks like the drugs weren't good enough. It's sad, but they're going to end up with Trump back in the Whitehouse because Biden to stubborn and somehow there being no alternative. It really is crucial they stop Trump winning. charlierc
Only clips I've seen were in this package... I mean, if nothing else, there were some decent barbs here. But what little I've seen looked deeply unimpressive. There's a definite case that both Democrats and Republicans owe America an apology for this sh*t. Trump is still a bullshitter whose own performance was pretty poor, but Biden's 170-year-old performance is the only thing people are gonna recall from this. Sucks, but it is what it is. That moment where Biden's train of thought cascaded from an answer about an abortion to a line Trump has been keenly going on about a woman murdered by an illegal immigrant was a particular low. And yet, so far, they seem to be sticking by him. Which is bold. Edited June 28 by charlierc

And yet, so far, they seem to be sticking by him. Which is bold. He has to want to stand down, and it seems he doesn't want to. He probably thinks he can still beat Trump. Apparently other potential candidates might not be interested, would prefer to stand in 2028/2029 and not this current sh*t show...which leaves Harris...and may as well let her have a go. I think Trump will win in November, and a lot of the fault of that will be this.

Campaign event in North Carolina, apparently. If it's similarly meandering, it won't help.
