Been watching a little bit of trump's speech last night and a little curious as to why the media isn't questioning his cognitive abilities?

cause they're not as bad as Bidens?

If Democrats replace Biden with someone younger and more with it they could nail him on it...if Trump actually agreed to another debate which he may well not.

There seems to be too many rumours floating about of his standing down imminently for there not to be some traction in it. We may find out very soon...

Love this guy. Shame that largely homophonic America would never vote in a gay guy for the presidency because Pete is incredibly clued up and articulate (although what he’s saying here should’ve been incredibly obvious for anybody paying attention - of course it’s the money and tax breaks that have got all the billionaires foaming over Trump’s second term).

It doesn't sound like Kamala is by any means a shoe in if Biden does end up stepping down.

They’d lose all of the money they’ve raised thus far if she isn’t, but then a shiny new candidate could spark a huge wave of new money coming in. Really is a pickle, and it really does seem like they’ve absolutely f**ked it either way.

There's an interesting interview with the political analyst Frank Luntz in the Times. He's Republican but anti Trump.

His focus groups suggest there are very few undecided voters left. Based on that he thinks are just 3 states that matter now - Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

He also has a longish list of Democrats, mostly Governors, who could put up a fight against Trump:

Kamala Harris (vice-president)

Gavin Newsom (governor of California)

Gretchen Whitmer (governor of the must-win state of Michigan)

Josh Shapiro (governor of the must-win state of Pennsylvania)

Wes Moore (governor of Maryland)

Roy Cooper (governor of North Carolina)

Cory Booker (New Jersey senator and a former mayor)

Pete Buttigieg (transportation secretary and a former mayor)

Mitch Landrieu (former mayor of New Orleans).

Yeah, the idea that there are tons of undecided voters at this point who could change the election result is absurd. At this point, you’re either against Trump or you’re with Trump and have been for some time. Maybe a new Dem candidate could encourage some non-voters to get up and actually vote, but tbh I think the election has been decided a long time ago - we’re just yet to see the results.

It's a tough call for them to be honest. I'm still on the fence about Biden, he could yet hang on although it's doubtful he's still going to be in the running by the time of the DNC. I don't understand why they're not jumping all over trump's speech at the moment.

I'm not convinced Shapiro would get the nod as he's Jewish. Potential to lose a lot of votes there. I think Harris or Newsom are the safest bets but personally think Harris would be the better suited to attack trump properly.
