As soon as he loses the protection of the presidency, he becomes liable to prosecution. NY state attorney after the Trumps in a big way.

And he will love this...full limelight, free publicity, paying a thousand lawyers (and paying people in general) to clear him, emerging as the victim who defeated the left/communism/socialism in the USA ready to lead them again in 2024.

His millions of disciples will hang on every word and lie he says. No-one will be able to stand in his way. Gun sales will quadruple.

It's a real horror-show scenario.

Dear god. CNN was just talking to a county in Georgia and dropped the bombshell that if (as seems likely) the difference is less than .5% then it triggers an automatic recount that won't take place until... the 13th!!

The final Georgia result hopefully won’t make a difference. There are other borderline results too as it stands. 1% is the margin where recounts can be requested.

If anything this election result surely has shown that method works? Typical Republican states and very right confederate states have shown they are swinging blue.

Yeah, because "swinging blue" is such a great thing when it's a party full of centrists that don't want any real change. I guarantee these next 4 years will just be minor changes; but nothing too severe so that they don't upset the former Republican voters that have shifted to the Democrats.

Which will work for him- he will play the victim and will never admit wrongdoing. There is the tiny chance they do the Pence/pardon thing but that would mean telling people he isn’t guilty but knows people want to hit him made up charges so Pence will pardon him before that can happen but that would be an out-there move for even Trump.

The pardon only benefits if he wants to go quietly and live out the rest of his life in piece, and we see no indication of that being the case.

I think imprisoning Trump would make it worse. It plays right into his supporters and the QAnon nutters hands. He’s being locked up because he knows the truth and is the only one who actually wants to help us normal people. So the deep state is now trying to silence him.

I actually wouldn’t be overly surprised if one of his own nutters killed him so they could blame it on the “deep state” and add fuel to that fire.

I think the only way to win is ignore him - every time you engage it gives him credibility. And his supporters will never believe any trial was fair.

Is this partly because the US postal service is one of the few things that are still nationalised, so is properly answerable to government?

A lovely thought. Genuinely. Can you just imagine never hearing from the prick ever again. The problem is the media love him. Every time he sends another insane tweet they'll all be there reporting on it cos its all about the clicks

I’m pretty sure you’re just trolling but if you have the view to burn all your enemies down you’re no different than trump mate. Just bat for a different side.

Ah so you don’t like people who eliminate all opposing views, and your solution is to eliminate all who have opposing views?

100% mate. Well said.

The way to get a proper progressive society is gradually and through compromise. We aren’t lurching right to left, and further stoking division isn’t the way forward, it’s the way backwards. Get a centrist government established and then start the fight to move further left.

Not the point I was trying to make, sorry not clear enough. Georgia was never called for Dems on election night in the way Arizona was, so if Dems flip it after slowly eroding the R vote then it plays strongly to the Trump narrative of the election being stolen. Having that in the background while we wait a week for the recount result will be toxic.

Yeah, I agree with this. I was reading an article which raised an interesting point about how the alt right actually are better at embracing love than lefties. Hate groups from Neo Nazi and terrorists embrace people and make them feel wanted whilst exposing them to their views, unlike the lefties how are too eager to point and criticize (even other lefties )so people who don't know when better given the choice will want to avoid the finger pointing dicks.

The same shit applies to the UK where the lefties couldn't get their shit together which allows for Brexit and Tory governments.

Yeah, the idea of reformative change is nice in theory, but how long will that take? Decades? Centuries?

How many more people must suffer under these toxic capitalist systems? Millions? Billions?

It's easy enough if you're some middle class person that's doing well, and politics is mostly just an interest that you pick up at key moments (e.g. elections and referendums). But when you're struggling and it constantly affects you, its not enough to think "Oh well, life is shit but maybe in the Year 3000 things will be alright and my great, great, great (etc) grandchildren will be doing fine"

Don't want to speak for @Gilgamesh69 but one example for you. The covid situation has completely taken the world's eye off the climate change ball. If climate change is an *existential* issue that demands our immediate attention then how do US citizens on the left have time to play nicely with deniers like Trump (and centrists like Biden)? The US doesn't have decades to play nicely and 'gradually' turn the map from red to blue does it?

No offence but how old are you? Probably around the same age as me.

The world isn’t going to drop everything and become Antifa.

When you’re young and passionate about political injustice you want to protest and burn shit down. I get it. But it doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t get to the root of the issue.

Because your choice is play nicely with the centrists and get some stuff done, or sit at the sidelines throwing shit at Trump and watch the right win election after election

...and if there wasn't actually lots of future elections left but just one. Would you still play nicely? That was the hypothetical point I was trying to introduce.

Or rather, I think fascist right wing bastards are absolutely the /enemy/. There should be no "finding a middle ground" with them. All this "but everyone's opinion is valid!" bollocks is toxic and obstructive to real progress.

And yet here you are, leading by example.

Loved what Biden said yesterday about not seeing opponents as enemies - though I imagine his opponents saw that as evidence of his weakness...
