Yeah not arguing that. Just as to why someone would take a break from stadiums to do Hyde Park.

Hyde Park holds 65k, so it's hardly as if it's a massive climb down. The Emirates very rarely has gigs and the Spurs ground has only just been built.

There are plenty of stadium fillers who have played BST recently - Taylor (twice), The Stones, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, Bruno Mars, Green Day, The Killers, Bieber, Take That, The Who...

Were all of them suffering sales downturns? Or were they just offered a lot of cash to play a famous venue?

And yeah, I was viewing it as he was finishing his tour dates in 2020 and then would be back in 2021 just doing one off shows (e.g. Glasto) - I don't think he is planning on quitting performing entirely... It's quite possible it still won't happen but considering he is literally playing as close to the festival as possible (week before Bristol, then a week gap till he plays Swansea) then he is set up as well as he could be. If Taylor had that kind of gap you'd be all over it.

Mad Cool was added onto Taylor's lover fest touring dates late on - don't think it was one she was raring to play, I think they just paid her the fee to get her.

@jparxshared this article where a stadium promoter said there were a few artists on the stadium circuit TBA for 2022. In the time since then we’ve had Foo Fighters etc confirm stadium dates, so slowly but surely more are coming onto the market.

Sheeran would be another contender to fit this mould if there are stadium artists TBA. But it may also explain why he has had to resort to something like BST if stadiums are booked up. Can’t help but wonder if one of them TBA (which would snap up a lot of dates) is someone like Adele. The article also said that Beyonce intended to do a 2021 stadium tour before the pandemic.

Probably downturns.

Acts get more for their own stadium shows than festivals can generally offer. They charge about the same or more for a show without one of the middle-men involved. Plus, 20,000 is a large climb down when you consider that’s  a few million in sales.

Taylor headlined in 2015 when she was massive. The likes of the Stones, The Who and Bon Jovi have never had many problems selling huge stadia... Given some of the names I've mentioned above I fail to see why the Sheeranator would consider it much of a comedown. It's still a high profile gig in an iconic London venue.

Maybe, just maybe, some acts enjoy playing there.

Yes - I think it all depends on the bid, and Hyde Park is still a reputable place to play. Taylor planned to do it again in 2020, as did Kendrick, Post Malone etc which are all very popular contemporary acts. Yes you can pack more in a stadium but it’s still a solid London date.

Aye, it was Ashton Gate in Brizzle. Haven't been paying too much attention recently, but he said something like 3-4 acts yet TBA, and I haven't seen anyone since announce shows there, so still some names to come out the woodwork. Location puts it in a prime spot for a pre/post-Glastonbury show. 

I have a hunch Taylor is gonna announce some shows on the 3rd Sept. Last Friday was Lorde, this Friday is BRM, then next Friday is prime announcement time for Taylor's tour dates. Worth remember of course the last tour was announced in September, so until we hit October/November with no announcement, it's still too early to rule out a 2022 tour. We're approaching crunch time, essentially.

Theyre in the Netherlands on June 23rd, then Paris June 25th. So thats  play Thursday, travel Friday, play Saturday. How is that going to work for Glasto. Go see em solo, itll be 3 hours of the same set as 2017.

I agree with you that tour announcements will be our biggest clue for next year. I think don’t think GFL are going to even toy with announcing anything until they’re 1000% on going ahead and I reckon that won’t be until early next year. 

Much more likely we’ll get an early announcement of tours from artists (as we already have from Relton 😉)

Yeah I think right up until September we should get a few announcements. I’m expecting Ed Sheeran, Adele, Paul McCartney, and hopefully Taylor to confirm what they are doing in 2022. Outsider chances of AM announcing a date somewhere.

All going to get exciting.
