Actually...no one really talks much about that result. There was a lot in it, May's disastrous election campaign and her dementia tax (actually a wealth tax to pay for social care), the whole brexit thing where no side was talking about stopping it back then, the fact that no one thought labour had a chance of winning...but also that maybe a lot of people actually liked Labour's manifesto?

In the end Corbyn could never win the centre ground because they are too self interested to buy into what he was selling, both in terms of policy, the threat of redistributing money from little penelope’s riding lessons to some poor free school meals kids - but also this that their egos are threatened by the thought of electing someone that if they met out in public or worked with they would assume that they had higher status than, that is to say an old bearded, jam making, vegetarian hippy type. Thats where the ’not a leader’ ’unserious’ charges come from.

But even just since 2017 it is blindingly and increasingly obvious that smart govt interventions to fix capitalism and the environment are the only realistic way to proceed in the 21st century and that time is running out.

Starmer’s constant u turns dont paint him as a compromising 90s third way moderate, they paint him as a man out of touch with the scale and urgency of the issues, and without the backbone to deal with them. What should we do about the rivers of sh*t? Well you know, I dont think nationalising them is the answer, maybe we could just politely ask them to put 50% less sh*t in the river? Its not good enough.

In the election campaign the tories and the press will nail him and Labour relentlessly for flip flopping and they’ll have to defend a manifesto that is basically the opposite of what most of them have been on record campaigning against in the past and nobody will buy it. Meanwhile, the economy will be doing better and Sunak will be able to throw a bit of cash at the wavering middle. Its soon squeeky bum time

I don't know...you keep writing Starmer off, but he still looks like he'll be the next PM.

we can command god to stop it raining so the sewers don't ever overflow. or were you talking about the rivers of sh*t that your word here are, 'unserious'.
