This school safety thing surely has to be final nail in the Tory coffin.

rekon they'll dump it on blair-labour's "building schools for the future" programme.

There has been stuff on the news that the concrete is potentially holding up asbestos so I'm guessing its before that.

That doesn’t sound like Tories, they normally take full accountability for problems.

They will obviously do this - and keep it going into the Spring when the budget will come along and they announce a tax cut as 'they managed the economy so well by sticking to their plan' and then if the polls are close enough they will go to the country in May or June just after pay packets hit and people feel better.

They will only leave the election to the last second if polls remain bad.

I personally think the electorate, those that change their vote, are now so easy to 'fool' that the polls will be close enough for them to try it in May or June.

actually could well be a recession next year...so maybe they will want to get the election in before that starts to bite (but then again there was supposed to be a recession this year so 🤷‍♂️

They might prefer a recession to campaign that they're the guys to get us thru it.

I don't think there's anything they can do that will win them the election but the I'm sure they'll try to find something.

Since 1979 general elections have been held in:

May - 5 times
June - 4 times
Any other month - twice

There are reasons May and June are the preferred months and they include it being a new tax year just after pay rises and tax cuts.

oct/ & nov are popular months too.

Clearly not as the post you replied to shows neither have happened since 1979. Harold Wilson had an October one out of necessity. Nothing popular about it.

Thanks for that reply - this site needs a laughing emoji option to add to the up and down votes for such comments ha ha

The only other months were April in 1992 and Dec in 2019 and as you rightly say nothing since Wilson used October.
