Because in the minds of certain segments of the population, only people like them exist.

What is notable is that the really dangerous drugs - eg. heroin - aren't rising anywhere near as fast as a lot of the criminalised non-addictive recreational drugs. I think the hardest drug that has serious usage rises is Spice.

it's just dumb criminalising it...sell soft drugs with health warnings etc...treat harder drugs like a medical issue, not a criminal issue.

If I could easily go out and get some decent drugs without having to do the whole dodgy dealer thing I would, my liver needs a break from all the booze.

one of my meds (specialist painkiller) has a big black market (apparently) i'd never heard of it until the doc at hospital prescribed it, then one of the nurses said it wouldn't be put on my meds list because of the black market, but was put on my meds list anyway.

Aren't labour planning to ban cigarettes for new users? I can also easily see alcohol being targeted more and the sugar tax being rolled out to more things.

It does seem to be the way we are going post-covid that governments are going to start legislating healthier lives

I think Scotland are upping their minimum pricing to 80p a unit. I can see England following suit after the election

Did they think you was going to sell it on ? lol

The over subscribing and abuse or prescription drugs and the profits made from it is a massive issue we aren't getting on top of.  The opioid scandal shows this.

I was given some steroids for my brain issues. I was well over prescribed for what I needed. A little bit of research showed me that those same pills are quite sought after in certain circles.

they didn't say that, that was my take away conclusion.

my notes might have said i smoke weed (as i'd fessed up to that just in case it was important.; when i'd been asked about drug use), and she (senior nurse) might have seen that and then had her prejudices run wild.

Its low...  Probably driven by the fact its ILLEGAL...

yeah, not easy availability is prolly what keeps it low(people like me are lucky enough to be able to buy  over the counter from the local shop).

I just explained how it "works".  No point me repeating it.

Most people don't use illegal drugs regularly.

but you did not explain how it was working when the very things in place to reduce it have not reduced it, and I am not just talking class A as you quoted in your reply elsewhere and I am also talking about things not yet classed in this country too but known to be lethal.

This is just Class A drugs. One small part of a big picture.

Here is a site where the big picture is laid bare.

Yeah exactly... Drug use is fairly static according to the facts.  Its low...  Probably driven by the fact its ILLEGAL...

The moaning about drugs is from a bunch of law breakers who want their crimes legalised.  Well, tough ...

I have never taken illegal drugs in my life.................................. but hey, does that mean I am not allowed an opinion on it?

I don't think find anyone who thinks drug laws will stop the use of all drugs.

and that is the point of most people here today and why people are saying that making NOS illegal will make any difference.

So make all the laws you want, add more and more to those laws and it will not make any difference, that has been my point and the point of others. There needs to be a new way to deal with it. Countries all over the world are doing it differently and perhaps it is time the UK joined in.

doing it properly is expensive, rehab ain't cheap. the SNP robbed their rehab money to use the money on pet projects (promoting indie), and now complain about the consequence, and blame that on westminster.

I actually agree with both sides here. Something being illegal definitely dissuades quite alot of people from starting to do it but equally criminalising the people doing it seems a bad solution too. Aside from it affecting their lives anything organised crime can get involved it affects other people in their community too.

I'm not sure what the answer is 🤷‍♂️

legalise it, regulate it, educate people about it....and tax it.
