If anything now is the time he should be acting as strong opposition, trying to give people hope that we can have something better than the Tories. But he's got no backbone and is flipflopping all over the place. Refer to that George Monbiot video I posted a few days ago, sums it up quite well

Oh you’re absolutely right, I’m just wondering if his plan is to go on the attack when the pandemic is more or less behind us.
I mean it must be, as his current stance surely cannot be the one he genuinely thinks can win an election. He’s a smart man as we all know, and I think he could be playing this sensibility and in a thought out tactful approach rather than leading with his heart and driven by pure emotion.

I think he deserves a chance to be viewed as a true opposition leader once every aspect of our days are not dominated by a pandemic.

Would Starmer maybe lose some credibility trying to play politics too hard in the middle of a global pandemic? Is it insensitive to those who have lost loved ones? I think it could be, and we will see a shift in direction later in the year when the worst of this should be over.

I think that is exactly why he's not been on the attack so much...focus groups have been telling him this. It's fucking off many labour activists as they see Johnson there for the taking. Have to see what happens after the pandemic, how bad the economy is and what choices Johnson and Sunak make. If tories do well in local elections then I expect chorus for him to go will grow louder...but who do you replace him with? Nandy? Dodds? Rayner? Reeves? Burgeon? Really think any of them would be doing any better?

Overall I agree with this but it will always be my firm belief that we should always be vocal in our criticism of him too

Yeah, it's shit...but that's where the public is...or at least the section of the public that labour needs to win. Tories probably more progressive on drugs than labour.

If he wins, cool. But I do wonder what it will take then to have an actual evidence based conversation on this then? If Labour are too afraid to even start the conversation how will we ever convince the electorate? I do hope he wins but I am also finding him very frustrating

Maybe the electorate isn't ready to be convinced?

I've been hoping they would be for 40years but I'm not noticing much change over all that time.

A successful leader takes on the battles they can win and puts aside those they can't for another day.

I wonder why no one got back to me with my comment about civil partnerships? It's not just starmer who runs away from the awkward.

I think its a pity Steve Rotherham went for the Liverpool Metro mayorship. He would’ve been a great pick for leader.

Dan Carden is decent too.

Liverpool generally is a productive spot for socialist types with the common touch- working class roots and a bit of charisma/relatability.

Except I'm not lying. You just rushed to reply, frothing at the mouth in rage, rather than waiting the few seconds it took for me to correct my post.  Look before you leap, as they say

you're still lying.

You edited your own post, and then made a lying post to claim I'd edited the post you'd edited. And you've now edited that.
