Primavera Sound 2022

I’m a mixture of nervous and excited for Tuesday! Absolutely hoping that the main headliners I wanted from this year (Strokes, National, Tyler, Gorillaz) are there for one of the weekends. I think the only bands that could make me reconsider that all being together would be Radiohead and LCD, neither are particularly likely

Also re: the ‘upgrade’ comment: would be a bit of a fuck you to Massive Attack/whichever headliner isn’t there if they’ve labelled their replacement as an upgrade 😄

Good point!

The band that gets nixed from the current poster is more likely to be a non-European name as touring is more complicated.

I suspect it's the Strokes who are playing gigs in the Autumn and then might now come to Europe later on next year. Or Tame Impala.

But just a guess. And could indeed be Massive Attack too as they have often moved tour dates around in the past.

Pavement are a slam dunk surely.

What they actually said was that "The first weekend is very similar to last year's festival with some additions so you will have what you already had (improved)"

i.e. they can replace two 'headliner status bands' with 'three headliner status bands" = improved.

2021 lineup was absolutely stacked so pretty fucking stoked to see what they consider improved.

I know they’re hardly gonna say ‘it’s shitter now’ but they could’ve easily just left out the ‘improved’ part so I’m cautiously optimistic.

Takes this as you will from a random dude on the internet but Radiohead did have plans to your next year. I haven't totally ruled them out at all and wouldn't be surprised if they pop up.

I think Thom Yorke will be catching up on the shows he didn't do, ditto Ed and Jonny and as such I'd expect them back in 2023.

Probably.

I was told touring and recording. But this was something I was told a while back and without knowing about this new band Jonny and Thom formed. Where that goes who knows

No reason Thom couldn't do his own tour but then also do a few Smile sets at other festivals.

Also, keep thinking they'll probably have a few  commercial pop acts to help shift tickets. Any predictions?

I can see them going for Bieber for weekend two. Slightly depressing writing this...

Literally zero chance of that. I know you may argue ‘but they had Miley’ but the artistic and accepted gulf between those two acts is massive. They’d never touch Bieber.

Miley was announced in April 2019, as a replacement for Cardi B who cancelled. So she wasn’t a part of the original lineup, just available at short notice. I can’t see them booking Bieber at this point.

For big pop acts I’m thinking Missy Elliott, Rosalia, Megan, Lizzo, Kacey Musgraves, Lana, Lorde or Dua Lipa (but she’s booked to play Barcelona October 2021).
