For whatever reason there seems to be a class of "yo-yo club" managers or at least managers who are perceived to be able to achieve mid to lower half finishes in the premiership with clubs that may enter or be in danger of entering that bracket.

Thing is you can't really blame the bigger clubs for not considering them as Moyes at Man Utd, Hughes at City and Hodson at Liverpool didn't really show the "turd polishing" managers are that great at managing the bigger names with ego's though I know Hodson did have some success in Italy. The route to the top jobs in the prem seems to be to show you can manage "names" in the German, Italian or Spanish leagues first.

it only works if the player plays tothe level of  those words: a match like yesterday's is the perfect opportunity for the player to show himself as really that good.
