Big win, I was getting worried again after the Spurs thumping.

Found Wolves to be surprisingly disappointing if I'm honest. But after 3 losses in a row and a particularly savage thumping by Wolves, needed a win, got the win. Job done.

Usminov's sister has now been sanctioned, surely a matter of time before Morishi is targeted now governments have moved onto friends and family who hold assets for the big guys. I can't see Everton attracting any bidders like Chelsea, anyone sensible would wait for the debt to be wiped out and buy the assets from the administrators.

I actually think Everton going under could help football in the long run. I think the biggest default is probably Parma or Rangers but this would be a different magnitude. It could do to football what the financial crisis did to banks and usher in proper new rules rather than tinkering.

I mean, people said that about the EFL kicking Bury out and the tidal wave of problems seen with Derby County. Indeed I can guess that sort of thing was probably also said about football governance after Rangers' liquidation a decade or so ago. There's a mentality in this sport of people burying their heads in the sand, so I'm not sure Everton being in total shit or worse would lead to a reset and change either.

United are muck.

They were very very poor. All you need to do to beat Everton is put a bit of pressure on and we'll collapse, and United couldn't even do that. The players seemed to get frustrated with each other way more than I expected - a team of individuals. They've given us a lifeline we absolutely don't deserve

And just like that, Everton defeat Manchester United.

We probably should've seen that coming tbh.

I did…

I wouldn't bet against United not showing up at the weekend and gifting them a point or three.

I suppose the signs were there tbf. Man United have given 4 points to Watford, plus drew with Burnley, drew with us when we were in the relegation zone before the Jan signings, were a few De Gea saves from dropping points at Norwich... it's just a real dysfunctional season from them.

Does assistant really matter? I would struggle to name a single assistant manager in the league.

utd swapped assistant under fergie quite a few times, there was no noticeable drop-off or improvement.

Arguable neither side can be truly happy from that tbf. Man City had the chances to win it, Liverpool arguably needed to win it more to leapfrog Man City going into this final streak of matches.

Agreed. I can't see City dropping any points from now to the end of the season unfortunately so a win was needed, as difficult as that is against them. Another 18/19 season by the looks of it. Both of these teams are relentless.

This is the first time in years I can remember still being in all these competitions this late in the season, makes it very exciting. The last time was probably the 2001 season but we weren't really that close in the league that year.

Liverpool can concentrate on the cups, now.

Both teams could win every game now, but this is a smaller City squad than previously nd fatigue could set in. Think it will go down to the wire and heart is telling me Liverpool could nick it.

Looking at the fixture list the Spurs and United games on paper are ones that could cause Liverpool problems (though they never usually have issues with those games at home) and West Ham for City, but surely there are a couple of mad results to come.  It's definitely a very favourable run in for both - neither have any really tough away games. Should go right down to the last week

Why? Have you forgotten already?

Are we sure UEFA haven't forgotten given they've co-opted an element of it with this idea of 2 places going to the best teams who didn't qualify through their domestic leagues as part of this unwieldy expansion of the UCL?

I know it’s only small beans amongst the myriad of things wrong with the game, but it really makes my shit itch when teams wear their away colour when there’s no need to.

Chelsea in yellow at Real is a prime example.

A regular bug-bear of this account...

In fairness one does sympathise. Real were just fine in their usual home number at Stamford Bridge last week, and indeed pretty sure Chelsea stuck to the usual number when they went to Real Madrid in the Champions League last season.
