I don't know. But I do know there are hundreds, if not thousands of acts that can sell out stadiums and never get to headline the Pyramid stage. Likewise there are acts that do not have the massive track record of selling out stadiums that might. I'm not sure that's 'the' key metric used to be honest.
Also, I said one or two more massive hits, not a whole set of them. Don't get me wrong, I love him, and I'd be at the stage in a heartbeat if he was headlining. But in terms of individual songs, and the 'stats' he's had a good few less hits than Billie when she headlined, (we're talking a millions vs billions on the board, quite a difference.) Olivia if she does headline (similar story here.) His streaming / sales figures are even lower than Sza, by some margin. BUT, I don't think this is always a good metric either, if there was ever any doubt then Sza proved that. And you're right, things could look very different after February anyway. 🤞
When somebody is the right fit (which I think Sam is) and it's the right time (this I'm not so sure about,) then it's just meant to be, isn't it? Stadium tours, streaming numbers, album sales etc are all just noise really. The pyramid crowd just want to be entertained, and more often than not it's music that they're familiar with that gets the party going on the main stage. In this respect, it's certainly not going to hurt any potential Pyramid set, if his album is great and spawns a couple more hit songs, is it?
Last one of the year for me, A G Cook at New Century (Manchester) (currently my absolute favourite venue). Unplanned last minute ticket from a mate but chuffed as I'd been trying to source one!
High speed, high energy set from the long time collaborator of Charli XCX... I initially got on with Cook better than Charli tbh, notwithstanding the tour de force that is Brat.
This was a carefully curated set, hard to do when you have a 3 "disc" album but mostly well structured to build the party with Britpop threatened throughout until the crescendo, though for me the uptempo'd Beautiful was the pinnacle.
Strong claim for a decent after dark slot on levels, although I wouldn't mind seeing him in Romy's Sunday afternoon slot on Woodsies. Charli superfans would be there, and if she gave him a shout out it'd be packed out - rightly so.
You're right. I thought they are booked at DL but I guess I mixed that up RaR/GMM. I guess indeed they are a possibility, although I hope it's not the case personally...
The categorisation on the website could lead to believe this, however I would assume Nelly Furtado is main stage sub, with one headliner still to be announced. Justice will presumably be A38 headliner. I can’t see Sziget in 2025 booking Queens of the Stone Age, given there was no rock headliner in 2024 and they are moving towards a pop and EDM direction.
Wed - Charli XCX, Papa Roach
Thu - Shawn Mendes, Nelly Furtado
Fri - Olivia Rodrigo, Snow Patrol
Sat - Anyma, Bicep Live
Sun- Post Malone, Armin Van Buuren
Mon - Chappell Roan, Girl in red
Something along those lines I guess , could be completely wrong
