I nabbed some free tickets to a Bryan Adams arena gig last year. He had a "premium" standing section at the front of the floor and seats behind it that were cheaper.

The standing section was very sparsely populated, after one song he just said that security should let anyone in who wanted to be in there. It quickly filled up and the atmosphere went up a notch.

Probably not so easy at a stadium gig but it would surely be better than having all those gaps.

Seems to be the new model, very American. They had the same kind of Coachella type set up at Mad Cool and a few bands - QOTSA being one - told the crowd to the jump over into the premium standing.

Big gigs are a pain in the tits.

Are they touring as a duo or was that a one off in Ireland. Would love to see them both.

As a band, with other musicians but only playing in America - which is why I had to travel to Dublin to see them at their warm up gig for the American tour.

Billy Bragg at a lovely outdoor venue near Gloucester docks tonight. Absolutely fantastic! Tank Park Salute still has me in floods of tears even 20 years after my Dad died.

One of the hardest things since I decided I was finished with Glastonbury was knowing I would miss out on seeing Billy at Leftfield every year, so tonight felt extra special.

I went to that too. Billy was on good form and the venue was great, hope to see more there in the future.

Franz Ferdinand were celebrating people doing that at Mad Cool 2018. Though it was a weird premium standing in that it was on one side of the section, in the form of being the other side.

I take it that it's still something that festival adheres with then.

I only went the once in 2018!

But yeah seems to be the same. And the VIP terrace shite too. Pay loads more to be miles back.

Saturday- The Mysterines, Teddy Swims, Lightning Seeds, The Big Moon, Paul Heaton, The Kooks and Far From Saints

Sunday - James, Picture This, Caity Baser, The Proclaimers, Mimi Webb, Red Rum Club and Siouxsie

Mixed in with comedy from Kerry Godliman, Ed Byrne, Fern Brady, Bridget Christie and Marcus Brigstocke it was an absolute joy from start to finish and I already can't wait for 2024

She actually sounded pretty good, her voice did seem to start to give in a little as the gig went on but her energy and performance skills haven't changed at all! Thoroughly enjoyed her and the singalongs to Spellbound and Hong Kong Garden were ace

James was the orchestra set, wasn't it? How did that go down? I've seen them do it at Liverpool Philharmonic but not sure how it would come across at a festival.

It was simply beautiful, I did worry about how it would transfer to an outdoor environment but they had it so no other music was taking place while they were on so it was really good. We could hear their soundcheck walking to the arena and that gave me goosebumps and the actual show was something else. They mainly stuck to the hits (I've seen a few people say Sometimes reduced them to tears) and it was one of my highlights of the weekend. I feel very jealous you saw it indoors as I imagine it was even more beautiful there!

Good to hear, it was one of the best gigs I've been to in year.

Last night went to see The Last Dinner Party at the Deaf Institute

They were supported by Nell Mescall and she was great, really lovely voice good at engaging with the crowd.

The Last Dinner Party were also really good. Definitely not just a one hit wonder. The lead singer seems to be channeling Kate Bush and Natasha Khan. Really strong vocals.

Myself and the wife headed down to Forest Fest in Co Laois last weekend. Super line up. Arrived late on Friday so missed a few:

Friday : Peter Hook & the Light and James

Sat : the Riptide Movement, Big Country, Sister Sledge, Bell x1, Frank & Walters, The Undertones, Apollo Junction, The Primatives

Sunday : Something Happens, Gabrielle, Suzanne Vega, Suede

An amazing weekend in spite of the rain. So many great gigs but Suede were the standout by a mile. They were absolutely brilliant. Brett Anderson is a force of nature on stage

Good to hear it went well, I’m away at the moment, but would have considered this one as haven’t seen Suede in ages! Off to ATN next week when I get home, hoping the rain calms down a bit! What were Big Country like without Stuart? Can’t imagine them without him.

TD, as far as I know only Bruce remains from the original lineup. Stuart Adamson is irreplaceable of course but it was a very enjoyable afternoon of their greatest hits

Yeah, had a look at the current lineup after your post. Still and all, good to hear those tunes getting a hit out! Might have a look at Forest Fest next year as my home festie (though thoroughly enjoying ATN these days).

One day festival at Birkenhead Future Yard yesterday. Lots of acts I didn't really know but I'll be keeping an eye out for from now on.

Headliners were The Lottery Winners who drove up.from Boardmasters to be there. Great show from them as usual, nice little cover of a Coral tune to celebrate being in not so sunny Birkenhead.

A cracking little venue, shame more didn't make the effort for the earlier acts but it looks like it was successful enough for the promoters to be talking about putting it on again next year.
