Went and saw Air perform Moon Safari in its entirety at the Royal Albert Hall last night….great show.  Shame they aren’t at Glastonbury this year

Never been to the RAH but going to see St Vincent there this evening. Was this shot from the Rausing Circle at the top?

First big show of 2024 was last night for me, in the form of St Vincent at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sadly compromised by a stomach bug I picked up, and while my ideal setlist would've had 2/3 other songs (no Birth in Reverse or Fast Slow Disco), good performance. Band were good, Annie has a crazy amount of energy, and the sound was nice and crisp. So I'm happy with the fact the central gig was good.

A night of yacht rock supreme on Friday at Co-Op Live with The Doobie Brothers and Eagles. The former sounded great, and were unexpectedly kick-ass. Came on a bit later than advertised and looks like they dropped a few number, including ‘What a Fool Believes’. Thankfully ‘Black Water’, ‘Long Train Runnin’ and ‘Listen to the Music’ were present and correct.

Regarding the venue, we were up in the gods in the ‘cheap’ seats. The view was good and the sound exceptional for an enormodome. However, the messages about the upper tier not being that high up didn’t prove true, and the main issue for me is that up there we were rammed in. No leg room at all, so unless you’re a short arse you may struggle. The seats may well be roomier on the lower tiers which were noticeably less steep. Personally I’d rather go to the AO Arena, which is also generally easier to walk to if you’re staying in a city centre hotel

Just back from Richard Hawley at the Glasgow Barrowlands tonight, now I’ve always really enjoyed his recorded stuff and had never seen him live, did not expect tonight to turn out the way it did.

he was absolutely magnificent! Incredible performance and an  amazing atmosphere! Bravo sir !!

Those Air shows look terrific.

Haven't been on here in a while, so a few belated shouts, but best three gigs of the year so far were The 1975 in Manchester, Glen Hansard in Leeds and Bruce Springsteen in Dublin.

Only one of those that was even a vague surprise was Hansard, but was a beautifully raw, stripped back evening of music. His father-in-law had passed earlier that day, and it very much underscored the evening as one of catharsis.

Scott Lavene at Kazimier Stckroom in Liverpool last night.

It's a tiny venue, probably about 40 in there tops, and it was superb. He's a really engaging, funny performer, tales of broken relationships, drugs, Disneyland and Custard. Would recommend.

Support were local acts DBA, sort of stoner indie, if such a thing exists. Enjoyed them a lot.

Beforehand, and during the break, there was a nice jazz act on in the yard. Star member being the little fella on the blanket.

glad to hear Air was good, I have been on the fence

I last saw them in 2007 - there were some technical difficulties resulting in them putting on a very poor and short performance.  The tickets are very expensive this go around too.

I recently saw the Rolling Stones (first time!) and I was shocked at how much energy Mick still has.  Unbelievable! and they sound great too.

caught The Orchestra (For Now) last night at The Windmill, albeit down a couple of members. think they're going to be really special. some of the songs really jumped out and they were so talented. definitely shades of BCNR but think there's a few more influences too.

Smashing Pumpkins at Birmingham NIA were great last night. We were stood as far back as you could get, but the sound was immense. No screens, but nice lights and shiny kit, all projecting well. Billy Corgan, insatiable bald man that he is had them play over 2 hours, breaking 11pm curfew

Villagers at Royal Festival Hall last night. Slightly oddly constructed set, with all but one of his best-known songs in the first half, and he could have interacted with the audience a bit more, but overall an excellent evening, would definitely see him again. Support from Hamish Hawk, whose voice is excellent and whose songs are alright.

Underworld crushed it once again at the Wyldes in Cornwall last night. First outdoor party of the year never fails to kick the summer off. The Wyldes is a lovely little venue, not sold out last night, so there was a good amount of space to throw shapes. Weather was sunny, if a little chilly but once the sun went down, we were in single digit territory from 11pm. Alarmingly cold for any forthcoming camping festivals, hopefully it warms up soon.

The current tour setlist goes so hard. Would have been amazing somewhere like Woodsies.

Jalen Ngonda at Manchester's Band on the Wall delivered a stunning gig last night.

I knew he could sing but this tour is just a three piece and he covered all parts on guitar. Not even sure he needed the bassist and drummer there.

A talent. If he's not huge soon there's no justice.

Doubt I'll see a better gig this year. Outstanding.

I was also there, also agree he has a ridiculously amazing set of pipes. So good live. That in West Holts in the hopefully sunshine would be a dream early start.
