James were excellent, here’s the setlist, should hear most of these on the farm

That was a great gig! Sounded very loud and best production James have ever had IMO.

Thirty Seconds to Mars - not by choice - last week was an interesting one. A top-tier-stripped AO Arena, and noticeably empty pockets elsewhere, with a band that included just two active musicians on stage (drums and bass/keys), but Leto clearly gave it the beans throughout, despite so much material surely being piped in off the pedal boards and sound desk.

I saw Glass Animals last night for the first time at EartH Hall. I think I would have rather seen them in the Theatre as the hall is a bit of a underground sweat box but as they filmed some of the video for Heat Waves in the Hall its easy to see why they would want to play the Hall.

I was expecting the gig to be one of those small shows where the artist plays the new album in full. So was pleasently surprised when they only played a few new ones and the set was mainly made up of tracks from Dreamland & How to be a Human Being.

No surprise that Heat Waves was the highlight but another was seeing Dave up on the bar singing. I hope no drinks were lost during this excursion. The low ceiling put pay to his usual energetic dancing during this number. Just watching him on stage jumping and spinning around made me feel tired and no doubt generated an additional few extra degrees heat in the room.

I do love the EartH Venues/Project but just wish the artists I like stuck to playing the slightly cooler Theatre 🙂

never actually been to Earth - which is a shame as Aba Shanti-I plays there regularly now that UoD is no longer at Scala.

the location is just such a pain - at 3am its impossible to get home from... if it ran until 6am then great no probs, but 3am... nope!

(if any Dub promoters happen to read this - please run your nights until 6am at Earth!)

Went to see Seasick Steve at one of those new record/signing things the other night.

New venue at Rough Trade Liverpool which was decent. He only did 30 minutes but that's often the way at these things and I didn't mind as I hadn't paid for the ticket.

Decent show, he can still knock out a good tune for a 127 year old fella.

Green Day on Tuesday for me, playing both American Idiot and Dookie in full. They were truly fantastic.

Absolutely unfathomable that they haven't even played Glastonbury. It would be unbelievable.

I thought they might have been an outside chance for this run of shows only for Isle of Wight to get there first and Wembley to be Glasto Saturday.

I'm seeing them in Manchester next Friday. Already contemplating which hoodie to wear given how sh*t this summer's weather has been.

Also going to Manchester. Paid extra for the front standing area.

I went to Foo Fighters there last night and it was freezing, especially during the couple of hours it rained. Thankfully the forecast highs for next Friday are about 5-6 degrees higher than it was last night at the worst point. Hoodie, but not layers and shivering.

Foos were great, the singalong at Glastonbury was much better and impassioned, but for me this one was more about seeing them do an extended set and songs they didn't do last year. Stuff like Generator, Stacked Actors, These Days, Walk and The Teacher sounded amazing, and in general it was a really good performance for me. Probably helped by us getting there early enough to get front standing (as they didn't sell it, was just first come first served) so we were really close.

Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins in Glasgow, bit of a marathon at the end but both bands on top form and a great atmosphere. Really enjoyable night!!

Saw them in Manchester last night. Wasn't really feeling Weezer to begin with (I like them but not a huge fan who knows all their tunes and wasn't in the right mood for them last night) but really enjoyed them once they did their Hole cover onwards. Smashing Pumpkins however were fantastic from start to finish, great warm up for Glastonbury

Ah I didn't pay extra for front standing. But was surprised to see videos both from last night and previous gigs at that venue how wide the bit is. It's likely a case of going straight from my hotel to the venue and just seeing if I can get a reasonably close-ish locale.

Also intrigued by Foos, given I'm seeing them in Cardiff the following Tuesday with some friends who live that way. Good to hear they're on form.

Worth heading down the left as you face the stage for getting close forward, there weren't many going that far. Its not an ideal venue to be honest, I don't really like it

My main worry was more getting out after, given it seems to be sending everyone to the one tram stop.

went to see Kim Gordon last night for the second time this tour.  Central Park, perfect summer night in the city.

Absolutely incredible show. Was thinking that I might miss her in favor of Brittany Howard at the festival, but last night was so good I'm having trouble making up my mind

I will be, yes. My hotel is near Queens Road station on the Bury line, which I gather has direct trams from Old Trafford.

You may end up having to change at a stop in town on the way back, there are a few destinations. You need to be on a tram heading to Bury as that's the only one that goes through Queens Road.  I'm guessing they'll just shove people onto the next tram in the direction of town because of the crowds so don't rely on ending up on a direct tram.

Sounds about right. I've been to big stadium events before so I'm aware sometimes it's a case of just getting the hell out any which way you can.

It's certainly different to my only previous trip to Manchester for a gig, which was to see Bloc Party at Castlefield Bowl. Or to be more clear, a smaller venue with more tram stops nearby.

Just back from Richard Hawley at the Glasgow Barrowlands tonight, now I’ve always really enjoyed his recorded stuff and had never seen him live, did not expect tonight to turn out the way it did.

he was absolutely magnificent! Incredible performance and an  amazing atmosphere! Bravo sir !!

Saw him at the Manchester Apollo on Wednesday and yes he and the band were excellent. The new album has got some good tunes on it and he played the hits. Where we were standing the sound was very muddy at times and as it go louder towards the end even more so. Not sure if we were in line with the base stack and that was the issue. Still great though.
