If ELO can do it, who are not exactly a household name to most, I think he can.

ELO are a household name to those in a certain age group and who make up the majority of the picnic and blanket brigade on the Sunday.

So... the Spice Girls are now more likely to be doing it because they have finally started saying they're not doing it.

1969 is prime Radio 2 fodder.

ELO not a household name.

Sausage.

I love this thread.

Household name is debatable I guess (I only know those three songs CalGon mentioned) but my point was more that Iggy is at least as well known.

iggy pop has a gig in Germany on the Monday after. I know he is super human but I don't think at 75 he could do two gigs in a row. I hope he plays the Friday or Saturday though

Ah, I thought I'd seen him playing doubles and apparently not. He's still done plenty of constant touring with 1 day gaps and Reg plays two on the trot often at the same age so I still haven't discounted it, but its more to do with Iggy being way more active in his set than just sitting at a piano.

Anyway, not likely, but would be great.

Hopefully he will be there in some capacity anyway.

I would argue that a Glastonbury performance is the perfect springboard to a huge tour due to the exposure the performance would get on the BBC - just like Kylie's did?

Yeah, to be fair if they announced a few stadiums and that also they were doing Glastonbury it probably wouldn't hurt their publicity - plus can't imagine many of the people queueing for their tickets will be those who already have Glastonbury tickets.  Think I'll give Duran Duran a re-listen before the Spice Girls though 😛

they are the same age but Iggy runs around like a maniac and Elton mostly just sits there

They did in 2003.

Obviously it was (much) less established at that point, but there's precedent.

I think that they also have the option to play around with the format a little more too. Go back to calling it the Sunday teatime slot if it is someone slightly less famous (e.g Kenny Rogers or ELO). Or move it to a less family TV time if they do want to book a legend who is a bit less sing-a-long/dancing bouncers (e.g Iggy Pop). It's really just a mechanism for getting another name act onto the line-up so they can play jazz until they find something that works for that year.

Who are big 90s bands that could be around?

Suede are around but played JP relatively recently and (sadly) don't have the name recognition for this slot. Obviously Pulp but we have discussed them extensively already and Blur have already confirmed that they aren't there.

You would but theres no obvious candidate for the teatime slot so it may be rubbish.

There are candidates though - Duran Duran etc

If they wanted to book something that wouldnt fit sunday legend slot but that was still good, they should do it.

That's every afternoon of every day of every festival.

Avalon Stage candidate

Not a chance. She'd draw far more than any Avalon Stage novelty act prior to 2022 - and after the issues created in 2022 I think the festival won't allow them to have any more "obviously too big" acts.

Early Pyramid "normally", but could work a bit higher.

Dunno why im in this thread really, the legends slot doesnt really appeal to me at all (ive only seen a couple, Dolly and ELO-  i tend to avoid it like the plague due to unappealing acts and insane crowds) but bloody hell, id be 100% there if it were Iggy. Cant see it happening, but it would be amazing!

Very early Pyramid I agree. Possibly acoustic headliner. But I dunno if she'd draw a bigger Avalon crowd than the likes of McFly.
