What would be fun - absoloute bangers like Say You'll Be There.

What wouldn't be fun - walking past eight rugby lads dressed as Ginger expecting a high five.

This has fucking killed me 🤣, second hand cringe I had then imagining it

If it is the Spice Girls, I'm 90% that I won't be there.  They've got 1, maybe 2 decent songs and just make me cringe so hard.  Plus only 2 of them could carry a tune 25 years ago, let alone now.

I'm allowing 10% in case our entire group are going and I get dragged along, which TBF could easily happen.

Spice Girls not more likely for next year now? Iggy Pop , Blondie and The Who all have uk shows around the time that seem more fitting?

If it is true that they've managed to coax Posh back for a short run based around playing the Coronation then that would seem to suggest it's this year or bust, at least for a while.

Thing is that those are all acts who comfortably can, and (fairly) recently have, found a comfortable home elsewhere on the lineup, they're probaby less fitting for that slot as constituted now than the high-camp cheese-fest from an act who've never played before and realistically couldn't take any other slot on the line up that the Spice Girls would be

I guess Iggy could work but it's already been done.  Blondie opened in 2014 and were shit and The Who hated their previous Glasto performance and claimed it was sabotaged.

I'm sticking with Cher or Spice Girls.

Really reckon Posh would be back for a payday, but would be stunned to see them pull this off tbh.

Would be absoloutely rammo.

The coronation would cement her man’s night hood and Glastonbury rolling out the girl power would balance out the blokey headliner chat.

Both locked in I reckon. Security in Union Jack dresses for both events.

So we have Elton, guns and roses and the spice girls as headliners/legends. Is this all a dream/nightmware and we've woken up 20 years ago ? they'll be wheeling on the cast from Dallas next.

Lol, and the field will be packed for the lot of it and it will be buzzing 😊🙌🏼 #ageisjustanumber

Who did you want for the Legend Slot? the Spice Girls would be the youngest act to ever do it.

Just out of interest... I only joined Efests last year when the line up was pretty much already complete. Have the Spice Girls always been rumoured each year or is it somehow especially strong for this one...

It seems like they're constantly getting asked about Glasto in their individual interviews and there is a huge desire for them to be there. I just wondered if that's been the case for a while? When's Neil going to add them as an 'official' 'Rumour' hahaha

They have been mentioned for a few years probably since around Kylie time as previously it has always been much older acts in contention. I presume Mel C's appearance and the fact a couple of them have said they want to do it has made it go up a notch for this year.

Posh Spice doesn't need the cash, so presumably she can only be tempted back for special occasions. By that rationale, the G could well tickle her fancy.

I wouldn't be so sure about her financials:

A Summer/Autumn stadium and arena tour might be quite a welcome boost!

I won’t believe we actually have GnR nailed on until it’s official. It seems like a misstep and will do even if they’re confirmed. They must have been desperate.

Update: as of right now GNR have still not sold out of standard tickets for their single UK date this year at BST.

It's an incredibly strange booking if it's true.

How small is the capacity of their (Hyde Park is it?) show?  Glastonbury will obviously give them a new audience, I waver back and forth on these guys.

I assume a similar bunch of people buy tickets each time they come to the country, and each time they come around they won't have released anything of note, presumably a slight variation on the line-up and Axl's voice presumably gets a little worse each time.  Presumably a few less people buy tickets.  Glastonbury isn't there to offer these guys a new audience, it doesn't exist to revive has-beens.  But... Glastonbury's been really poor at including bands of this type, Metallica aside as a headliner, they do have an amazing setlist available; apparently Axl's voice has mitigating circumstances; and this is one of the better lineups.

Like I said, I waver.  If Glastonbury didn't have a 'no metal' policy 30 years ago they would have headlined long ago and we wouldn't be thinking about it now - not that Glastonbury needs to right wrongs now, but Metallica and GnR (whatever number of years apart) seem a reasonable place to start (absolutely positive better bands exist).  That they've not sold out their one gig is worrying, but I think their core fan base has probably 'dwindled'.

65k but a bunch of those are some level of VIP. Everyone else except Blackpink has shifted theirs I think, that includes Billy Joel, Pink, Bruce, Take That. I think Pink has sold out two dates. Obviously it's not everything, and the Glasto tickets sell themselves, they don't need to convince people to buy them. But it is an indicator of how big a legacy act currently is.

I wouldn't complain, I'll just go elsewhere, and I don't think it's a necessarily "bad" booking. They are still one of the biggest hard rock bands of all time no matter what anyone thinks. But in 2022, it just strikes me as strange.
