Wouldn't book them to top the Pyramid with all of the other acts available on-hand, but would have them as a legend. Believe their US run with Chic and Bastille wraps up just the week before, so they'd be tour-drilled, undoubtedly. 1 The Wild Boys 2 Hungry Like the Wolf 3 Notorious 4 A View to a Kill 5 Union of the Snake 6 Come Undone 7 Ordinary World 8 Planet Earth 9 The Reflex 10 White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) 11 Girls on Film 12 Save a Prayer 13 Rio They've got the songs, but Le Bon ain't got the charisma for the legend slot. Don't believe me? - Just Google their Commonwealth games slot - he makes Jeff Lynne look like the greatest stage performer of all time in comparison! But interesting. It's been a few years since I saw Duran Duran, thought his patter was alright. (His head is somewhere else though.)

As much ad they're perfect for the legends, with that potential set list I can see why LeBon would want top spot
NorthernSoul52
It's funny, because a decade-and-a-half ago, I'd have pegged Duran Duran as Pyramid headliner material. Now however...
CaledonianGonzo
I suspect any dispute - if there is one - is SLB thinking they're headliners whereas for the festival they're firmly in the Legends camp.

kalifire
Can somebody catch me up? Do we have any idea who this could be, beyond the fact that Rod’s dates sort of fit?

Duran Duran's dates also fit, though we're speculating it's unlikely to be them as comments in a recent interview appeared to mention "waiting for the right slot". So we've kind of leaned back into Rod Stewart, we think?

Just mentioned his lack of stage presence, as he's been slagged off for it on here so many times! If people thought ELO were boring because of the lack of banter (I didn't), they'll be falling asleep if/when DD play!

Unless we count The Cure among those ranks too. Going back over the headliner pool the past decade-and-a-half, been struck by how many artists who have headlined didn't have their commercial peak during the eighties. Springsteen, arguably, and maybe U2 at a push, but otherwise? Pretty much seventies, nineties, noughties or now. (Some were undoubtedly big draws in the eighties, such as the Rolling Stones, but would argue their commercial power was another decade.) I look at the 2008 line-up and would have pegged them on a par with The Verve for cultural cache (albeit, without the reunion tag The Verve were sporting.) I'm not sure the currency of this cultural cache, but the verve were ever en vogue - Duran were popular indeed in the 80s, but because of that would very much have been frowned upon then. Now people can enjoy them ironically 😉
