Mate, Jorja Smith was on the next line as Nick Cave this year. She had ONE album in 2018, Halsey's had 4 in the last 7 years. She's a good booking but ultimately it means very little.

If you've somehow never even heard of bands like Swans or The Mars Volta I think your issue might be you just need to go listen to more music in your niche. Go listen to Glow On by Turnstile, it's one of the top albums of last year and a fantastic booking for PS23.

The mars Volta weren't in the list I replied to......

Of course I have heard of them. Seen them many moons ago at Oxegen in Ireland.

L'via Vazquez would be my personal fave.

Same statement applies to some of the other stuff in there, try Ghost, try Off! (their new album Free LSD is great). Use it as a good excuse to check out music you haven't heard. Download this year has faced similar scrutiny with people wondering where all the classic rock acts have gone in favour of stuff that's more contemporary and exciting, it's a great opportunity to listen to a bunch of new stuff and find your next favourite band!

I think people are taking me up wrong. Halsey is next in line on the poster to Blur.

Im thinking back to my early evening fare of recent years like Sharon Van Etten, Slowdive, Low , Pavement.

The guitar bands the other chap listed are all at the bottom of the poster and I genuinely have never heard of any of them, ever. I have seen Shellac mentioned a few times on here to be fair.

All im saying is, if Halsey is the hill people are willing to die on to insinuate the lineup is strong then that in and of itself is indicative of this years standard.

Her prominence on the poster draws legitimate scrutiny.

If you've genuinely never heard of the likes of Swans and some of the other acts people have mentioned I have to assume you stopped listening to new music a long time ago and in that case it's a bit premature to criticise a lineup that you obviously aren't familiar with.

I'd encourage you to listen to some of these acts with an open mind. Forget Halsey - at least give Swans, Jockstrap, Turnstile, Beak> and Black Country New Road a listen. Based on the acts you've mentioned I reckon you'd like those.

Will Julian Casablancas be with the Voidz?

Are there any reason why he wouldnt?

Btw, I know many liked the organic set that Strokes played in June after watching the ultra choreographed Dua Lipa set. But for me it got annoying and weird after a while, even for Julian. We also didnt get to see Ode to the Mets because of all the stupid small talk.

Yeah that's fair actually. Was that 2018? I can't really remember. But yes I do remember hearing about how rammed that was. I didn't go to that one so probably why it skipped my memory.

I was there, quite close to the stage and I don't recall any capacity issues, just one of the greatest sets of 2018.

And as much as I love this year's line-up, I really hoped Belle and Sebastian would be back next year (their last album is magnificent).

Again. I think im being misunderstood. I will go and try loads of new bands. Im not "old man shouts at cloud" personified.

Im just thinking of the average group of say 4 or 5 people who go gigging together. Where are the guilty pleasures that most people will sing along to. For example Due Lipa last year.

I don't see each day building to a crescendo. Its headliner.......GAP.......and then most of these new bands that people are recommending.

You need some meat and potatoes to pad out a lineup........people are recommending plates of Fennell seeds.

Thank you my friend. And I do genuinely come in peace. Im not here to deride the festival.

Halsey in my head is a 7pm artist and when I look at the lineup she looks like an 11pm artist.

Id listen to her and im sure be impressed, but id be expecting an arcade fire or the strokes (or both) to be on afterwards.

Haha fair enough. I think 2022 was a freak lineup and this year was always going to be a bit of a let down in comparison. I missed acts that would have been must sees any other year.

I'm also hoping they will add a few. The Smile were a big late addition last time.

This is the silliness we're pointing out though. She's had 3 multi-platinum albums. She's not Girl in Red or Clairo or Amyl & The Sniffers.

I have started to explore the undercard, and listening to Sudan Archives right now. Like it a lot! Got a major TuneYards feeling, and wasnt surprised at all when I searched and saw that they have been touring together.

It has begun... finding the 10 000 artists that I didnt know I wanted to see in Nov, but in June have to walk as fast as I can on tired legs from Cupra to Dice to check out.

Funnily enough, I also just listened to Natural Brown Prom Queen for the first time a few hours ago and it blew me away. Brilliant album!

There's a lovely guy on another forum who is an insane gig-goer (pretty much every night), and it was his AOTY plus he said their recent gig was spellbinding - high praise indeed...

Saw her earlier this year and she was phenomenal, really entertaining. Well worth a watch and listen.

That sounds very promising! I just realised she played near me a couple of weeks ago. Oh well, more reason to catch the set at the festival.

Has there been any indication as to when we find out the line up for Porto?

7th December apparently. Mentioned on the Porto thread! Not sure who their source was though. I'm doing Porto for the 3rd time next year (went 2014 and 2015), so eager to know who'll be there too!

She might have had 3 multi-platinum albums, but I had honestly never heard any of her songs before I checked her out on Spotify a few days ago, I have barely seen her name mentioned anywhere, she doesn't have a recognizable hit song, she is not hyped in any way, at least not here in Europe. I just don't really understand how she is a headliner at a festival like Primavera, are there truly people who will buy tickets to the festival because Halsey is headlining? Am I missing something?

I'm listening to her latest album now and I find it extremely boring, her singing is grating and there's nothing interesting about her music... Then again, I never really cared for the headliners at Primavera, the mid-sized names and the incredible undercard have always been what made the festival interesting for me, but I just don't really understand the 2023 line-up and how they chose the headliners, Halsey and Calvin Harris are easily the worst headliners in the history of Primavera (yes, even worse than J Balvin)
