rwoo
Just seen the latest Flood Outlook & Weather Assessment at work from the flood forecasting centre. Looks like a wet May with unsettled conditions, as already predicted. The May to July 3 month outlook is 60% near average conditions, 30% chance of wet conditions and 10% chance of dry weather. Hard to take much out of this but hopefully get more of a picture by the end of the month. Hoping that the late May models clear up a bit as it could end up being warm. MEGATRONICMEATWAGON
Bring me sun in the morning, a light rain at lunch time, sun again until I go to bed and then it can rain a little to keep the mud down for the next day. Perfect.

squirrelarmy
@MEGATRONICMEATWAGONis obviously worrying about the suction effect that sticky mud has on your wellies. A bit of drizzle will keep surface tension down and make it easier to move your feet.

But I'd still rather be in a wet, muddy glastonbury than anywhere else in the world that weekend. I was looking at these the other day. Haven’t bought any yet. Anyone with experience of them know if 1 pair would be enough for the festival if it was a wet one? Foot care is #1 priority on wet years. That dribbling tap is affecting my bladder 😉

MrSpaM
I've worn SealSkins to every festival I've been to for the past 10 years, I can't count the amount of times they have kept me dry whilst everybody else has been miserable, I highly recommend buying some, they've become essential for me I've literally walked through rivers in them whilst hiking in the peak district and your feet remain bone dry providing the water doesn't go over the top of them Just wear a pair of thick walking socks underneath them and you're golden Edited May 10, 2023 by MrSpaM
squirrelarmy
I've done my first sacrifice to the weather gods. In 2011 I bought an amazing poncho on site, could keep 3 people dry underneath it. It got lost at some point over the years and I've just ordered a replacement one.

Sheffield Steve
The American model, the GFS, is forecasting a very wet rest of May. This is rainfall accumulation over the next 2 weeks, and predicts much of England to have a further 2-3 inches of rain. This would make the site very damp indeed…

And this, oh dear. https://news.sky.com/story/uk-weather-hail-heavy-rain-and-thunder-hit-parts-of-england-12877394 I'd take these reports with a massive grain of salt. I live just outside of Bruton, one of the places that suffered the worst the other day and is in the pictures. Yes the rain was heavy but these floods and evacuations were due to poor river management by the council. Bruton used to end up underwater almost every year in the '70s until the issue was worked out and the drainage improved. It was discovered off the back of the floods the other day that the vegetation cleanup on the river hadn't been done properly which is why this ended up looking so drastic. It wasn't really indicative of the rest of the area. My dad was bringing my daughter home and called me saying he couldn't get through I didn't understand why, yes it'd been raining all day but wasn't that bad, turns out he was stuck at this hotspot but the rest of the journey was fine. Anyway, just throwing in my 2p as I've seen a lot of Glastonbury groups share the Bruton pictures but it's been blown way out of proportion as it was a very isolated issue.

I went out of the door for a run about 1500 and it was starting to rain. After a mile it was heavy but not torrential, and continued like that for the next 45 minutes. Couldn't see the farm from the ridge but that is not unusual when it rains. I was coming in the door very wet when it eased off. After that it rained a bit for the rest of the day. Hardly the apocalypse, but from miles away it may have seemed to be the prelude to a new Atlantis. Weather happens every day. Wear a coat.
