This is my issue with those asking for blazing sun. There's a world of perfect festival weather between a washout and hiding from the sun.

Last year was about as close to perfect as it gets weather wise for me. A bit more blue sky and it would have been ideal

If it reduces the chances of the site getting trashed and not being able to sit down for a week, I'm prepared to cope with a bit of sun.

2005 was also my first year. Who would like to see some pictures to articulate just how bad it was that year? Of course you do!

The Thursday was beautiful with pure sunshine. We were in our element. I remember primal scream - loaded blasting out from the other stage bar whilst we lay on the grass. Then I woke up on the Friday morning and walked down pennard Hill to be met with this. It was actually worse than this earlier in the morning and I remember seeing a guy waist deep trying to retrieve something from his tent, a 24 pack of beer!

 

The stages were gigantic lakes of mud and none of us had brought wellies. My friend and I at least had walking boots but my other two friends only had trainers. They had to use plastic bags inside their shoes. My mate also leaned his bag up against the side of the tent despite me telling him not to and all his underwear got soaked. But at least we weren't in the path of the newly formed river.

The tent below was located next to the John Peel stage and there were several other tents that were half submerged around there too.

Then the festival got completely churned up (see what I did there) which was a nightmare to walk through. I think this is why people compare it to 2007 as I think 2007 was incredibly sticky as well. However, I don't remember the rivers forming in 2007.

We still had a great time in both years though. We were much better prepared in 2007.

For this reason I am firmly in the NFRNFC camp.

Used one in a 40 degree Sziget festival. Was a game changer. 
 

Difference in the two festivals is the availability of ice cold cans of beer/cider. Heat is bearable as long as you have a steady supply of cold ones/beach to cool down in.

I spoke to a Security guard after that storm in 2005. He said the chat on the walkie-talkies basically said another half hour of that rain and they were going to cancel the festival.

This was my second Glastonbury. We had those two glorious days of sunshine on Weds and Thurs and the weather forecast did say there would be rain Friday morning but at no point did they say 2 months worth of rain. 
The site had pretty much dried out by Sunday though.

I found 2007 worse because it literally never stopped raining. Just grim, attritional rain that never let up. 20 year old Adam just opened a can of beer and had a few special happy pills to get through it but I’m not sure if 42 year old Adam has a 2007 in him.

Yes, 2007 was grim because of the rain persisting all weekend. Having said that, I found it easier to get around because the constant rain kept the mud wet and you could wade through it. Much preferred this to 2016 where - although the weather was better - the mud had dried to the point where it was so sticky it was a mission trying to walk in it. Lots of people getting stuck, falling down and losing their wellies!

Great photos.  Wish I'd taken more (any) in my early days.

I was camped on the hill in front of the farmhouse overlooking the Pyramid.  Too steep to be comfortable at night as you'd slide down the tent.  But when the rain hit we were completely dry inside.

But the state of the site wasn't enough to stop me coming back.

Ah the weather thread. Waited until 2 weeks before to join you, but see I’ve missed 85 pages of banter and speculation. Nice to be here now though. Hoping for 2022 and not 2007 here (didn’t make it to 2005 but will skip that one too) 🤞Here’s one of my 2007 pics, which was bad enough
