I think the conversation re typecast/predictable bookings links in with the ongoing conversation about long-time Glasto goers vs one off bucket list types. I would go as far as saying that I don’t think the bucket list-ification of the festival would help any meaningful long term evolution of the festival and its offer to those who attend it.

2015 - which seems to be when Lulu last surfaced - had various other older heritage acts drawing reasonable crowds on the bigger stages - Lionel, Burt Bacharach, Patti Smith, Mavis Staples etc so I'd not really agree that there's been a shift.

 

That said, if you were to posit that 2024 is looking so threadbare that Lulu will actually become a big attraction because there's f**k all else on then I'd probably agree.

Ooh is she evil?  Just googled and I see she was a Thatcherite - never knew that.  

 

I could see myself enjoying a round of Shout but probably not enough to ensure a space in the tent if there's going to be loads of people vying to get in there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Doonicans back it they want to stick with the comedy music act to get things going.

Are the Hobos definitely out?  I thought they were taking a break after Glasto last year but didn't know it was going to continue through this year's festival.  Would personally love the Doonis at some point over the festival.

Their facebook page just says "OK. We're taking some time off for a bit while stuff gets dealt with."  That was in August last year.  🤷‍♂️

Ha you might be right. I do think there has been a small shift since my first one in 2013 over the years but I have nothing against it, if you get a ticket do Glastonbury however you like.

yeah absolutely I think ive been to see them opening possibly 10 X , such a great opener for me , and yeah its cheesy with the same jokes but brings a smile every time especially if you take newbies along with no expectation like I did last year

They don't seem to be playing big venues at the moment on their tour so expect they're about the size to be a 'big' Avalon act, they'll get a big crowd but won't get the whole area shut off like Sugababes/McFly did in 22.

Yeah will probably be just one next week because of the resale, but after that there are enough areas to make about 2-3 announcements a week on average until the full lineup end of May/early June.
