LAWKS! It's the next announcement thread

Williams Green has increasingly become the main place for up and coming indie acts, bigger than Introducing but not able to fill the JP. Especially since JP has increasingly moved towards pop.

Hopefully it hasn't been axed - they should be developing it if anything. For example Latitude always seem to have an undercard full of the sort of acts Glasto could be booking. And there are loads of smaller UK indie day-festivals around the country that have been thriving for a while now.  But Glasto's main stages tend to stick to the obvious 6 music acts or the older acts that have been doing the circuit for a while. Which is why Williams Green is important to keep.

Plus it's just a generally good field to be in day and night

When I was a lot younger I thought it was for independently released music, altho it's more synonymous with generic guitar rock bands like the Fratellis now.

Well you see that's what I thought too.

I would prefer it stay, but there are stages that are criminally underused and could sub for WG - for example, the Rabbit Hole and BBC Introducing.  You could even pepper some of these acts before nightfall on the Truth stage.  Plus, early slots at Woodsies (never gonna get used to saying that) and The Park are also very not full.  Just Mustard at Woodsies last year had about 100 people there. Maybe this is an exercise in utilization.

Me too. Indie bands will soon have to go to another festival.

I can see both sides - I love the field but anyone I've seen there's been barely anyone in there, unless they've blown up between lineup announcement and festival like Fontaines did in 2019. I watched the end of Alfie Templeman - he was headlining the tent and we made it there with a few songs to go (he may have been late on as we weren't expecting him to still be going when we arrived). It was practically empty and he was all over Radio 1 at that point.

There are so many other festivals for that type of thing, and I go to them for it - Kendal, Neighbourhood Weekender have some on the lower down stages but I'd say 110 Above is the best comparison to William's Green (HIGHLY recommend. Incredible festival). I just don't think the demand is there at Glastonbury for acts quite that small, and to be fair despite it being my main type of music, I avoid seeing that sort of thing there too as that's what I see the rest of the year.

The guitar music demand tends to be for those that have made it a bit more - the Blossoms, Wombats etc of the world.

I hope those bands do have another home, and maybe one more accessible on a whim, but I can also see why it'd be cast aside.

Except it was a couple of weeks before the announcement (which dropped on a Thursday in the end) - as Neil says, his information is always 100% correct at the point at which he hears it.  It was @KidneyTerra - not sure if the incriminating post is still up anywhere

It was from the horse’s mouth so the source was good.  Wasn’t it like 1-2 days off?
