Forgot how much of a knob matt healy is, been seeing him all over my tiktok

it's quite incredible how much I dislike him, i watched some of the Zane Lowe interview and he somehow made himself seem worse than I thought he was. Moaning about the term nepotism baby and completely missing the point of it.

He frequently flirts with coming across as being very self aware and kind of putting on an act, but then he’ll spout some bollocks and you get the impression it’s not an act and he really is just a bit of a self-congratulatory tit.

I think Healy walks the line between self-aware and self-inflation a little too jerkily. But, man, the fellow captivates on a stage.

Midweek sales in - Being Funny in a Foreign Language is posting 28,509 so far, which for the sake of debate, has it tracking to match the first week efforts of their own Notes on a Conditional Form (34,245) and likely edge the first week sales of Florence and the Machine's Dance Fever (31,187). Imagine it is fairly frontloaded - will be curious to see what, if any efforts, there are to goose sales over the rest of the week.

Will have a better idea if we get a Tuesday sales flash update through end-of-Monday results and it has cracked 30,000.

Depends on the day, I think.

Had to wait through Wednesday, but Being Funny in a Foreign Language is up to 36,115, with two days of sales still coming. Similar tracking would get it up to around 43,000 but would imagine it ends up closer to over/under 40,000. Even so, still a marked bounce back following Notes on a Conditional Form. (Hold next week will be awful, but they can blame that on the Arctic Monkeys/Taylor Swift battle at least).

On another note, Oh Caroline looks likely to be its highest charting entry via streams. Not necessarily the one I expected to drive traffic, but appears to have been a sizable hit with the kids.

The last couple of pages with mock setlists has got me very excited for the tour.

I 100% believe they are ready to headline the Pyramid, however I suspect they will be overlooked this year. This stuff is all about timing sometimes and it's not really worked out for them so far unfortunately

Maintain in a non-pandemic world, 2021 would have been their time.

Anyway, make that five number one records - and with improved sales on their last too. Safe to say they've bounced back. Re-entries for Happiness and I'm in Love With You, plus a top-thirty entrance for Oh Caroline - which in hindsight, felt the obvious likely cut to break out, given its sound harkens back.

Will keep an eye out for sales on the record. Hopefully it cracked the 40,000 mark.

Completely agree. Such a shame.

Can still live in hope it'll happen but I worry there are too many other huge acts to fit in over the next couple of years.

I formed quite the hatred for The 1975 mainly due to the frontman, however I’ve now listened to all 3 of the big releases over the past week (Arctics, Taylor and The 1975)…. I cannot believe I’m saying it but The 1975 is IMO the best of the lot by a way.

The 1975 would have been such a coup for the Other headline slot around 2018-2020 kind of time.

The fallows year + Covid properly fucked then in a steady progression up the lineup. In another timeline, they might’ve had a pretty decent slot in 2018 (Other headliner? Pyramid sub?) and then almost definitely would’ve been headlining in 2021, but alas it wasn’t to be. Maybe there’s still a chance for them on the next album depending on who else is around at the time… but wouldn’t surprise me to see them return as a sub instead and that be their ceiling.

Don't think they were touring in 2018 so that wouldn't have happened but agree that they probably would have headlined in 2021. I still think they're a headliner or nothing for the foreseeable though. Doesn't necessarily mean it'll happen, mind.

Sales in - Being Funny in a Foreign Language posts 40,962 in first week consumption, including a whopping 15,255 on vinyl and 4,283 on cassettes. Would love to know how those metrics break down next to their last record - that is an outrageously good yield for vintage formats. (Total physicals come in at 31,662.) By my calculation, it also gives them the fifth-highest first-week sales for a number one record this year, behind Harry Styles, Liam Gallagher, Muse and George Ezra.

Those figures will get comparatively slaughtered this week by Arctic Monkeys and Taylor Swift, of course, if we're talking super-size headline stakes on quantification and comparison, but aye. Back on the up!

Did anyone else listen to Matty on Radio 1 the other night picking some of his favourite tunes?

He picked this and mentioned how he heard it in Ibiza around the time they got big and had a bit of a moment. I'd never heard it before and I fucking love it!

Quite incredible that 4,283 people still own cassette players. Even in horrifically dated cars.
