Thefts/Robberies

Not heard a peep this year usually a fair few stories. 

I'm I missing them or a good year?

A good year but no one has cash anymore, theres no point robbing phones and the tickets are expensive.

We were told about some tent thefts near jp … but I’m never sure if this is more of a prevention thing or not ? Just to make sure that we don’t become lazy … think this was on sat

It seemed bad when we camped there in 2019 too - a lot of those around us had stories.

A couple of my mates couldnt be arsed to carry their camp chairs from the car, so went around and nicked a few on the Thursday night when most people were out and about. I also standardly didn't have any tent pegs, as the last time i used this tent it was easier to leave the pegs in the hard ground when i left, so i went around nicking some from people camped nearby- it was funny overhearing them wondering where their tent pegs had gone 😆

Apart from that, i didnt see or hear any incidences of theft. We never have any bother, because we are a large group and anyone thinking about robbing our tents can probably easily tell just by looking at us that if they did, they would get one hell of a kicking.

On a related point though, what was the extent of abandoned kit this year I wonder - thinking it would have been low due to good weather and what seemed like a clearer message on it this time.

Just giving my feedback on thefts that i experienced. I dont really mind admitting i nicked a few tents pegs- who cares? Most of us at the festival are socialists, whats a tent peg or a camping chair between fellow revellers? Lots of it gets left behind on Monday anyway.

I left my tent and quite a few others did around Pennards. They will get tatted though, so im sure it will go to good use. If not, it gets incinerated and the energy fed back into the grid, so its not actually as bad a thing as many like to make out it to be.

If that was one of my mates, then apologies. Thing is, they only nicked stuff that was left outside of tents, so if people really want to keep hold of stuff, i would advise them to zip it up, not leave it lying around.

Hmm. I usually leave my camping chair set up immediately outside my porch on the Wednesday to discourage people pitching up so close that I can't get out (and so I have space to sit down when I get back at night). May have to rethink that one.

Did they have as many police on site as they normally do?

As other's have said, there's probably less temptation to steal. So many people have smart phones that look great, but are entry level prices so not worth the hassle, there's no cash anymore, battery packs are easy to pick up cheap...

Probably why it's such a rush to steal tent pegs and a couple of camping chairs. Imagine the buzz and the stories you'd get doing that!

Its wise to stash it away, but then, if yours gets nicked you can always just go and nick someone else's to make up for it. Part of the circle of things at festivals.

I was hoping my tent would be enough discouragement but someone practically pitched up inside our tent on Wednesday evening. Covered our entrance and actually put a peg INSIDE our entrance. moving our tent back a bit was pretty difficult after a few cans...

Thankfully these days, there's not really a lot of value to steal these days, thank god. Most people have their cash/bank cards and phones on them at all times, even inside sleeping bags whilst they are sleeping, etc, or keep things locked in the lockups. Most punters have wised up to thieves so take lots of precautionsm, and take most stiff with them during the day, so hardly worth it for the opportunistic nobhead

And the vast majority people are genuinely nice, so look after each other and will keep an eye out for scumbags wandering around the camp sites
