Is this renewed Pulp chat based on anything other than hope? Would love to see them on the farm.

It would make a lot of sense and they have obvious history with the festival. However… I can’t help but feel that they are headlining everything else they are playing and did sell a lot of tickets quickly. Are they too small to headline but too big to sub?

Sure we've had that discussion before but yes. I think Pulp are Pyramid headliner level, personally, but they also perch in that category of "bloody big Pyramid sub" that a few other acts perch in too. If they subbed, they'd be a massive one. If they headlined, they might feel like the smaller one, dependent on who else topped.

I reckon they're actually in the sweet spot where the audience would accept them as a Pyramid headliner, but the band would take a sub spot without feeling like they were selling themselves short.

Their fellow headliners at those other festivals are acts like Paolo Nutini, George Ezra, Robbie Williams, Sam Fender, The 1975... Pyramid sub or Other headline feels right.

Robbie is definitely headliner (or legend) only at Glastonbury. Fender is probably at headliner level too now.

Yeah fair enough, I guess 1975/Sam Fender are jockeying for a headline slot.

I guess since they're 'on the up' they have to be more careful about what placements they accept so as not to damage their future chances, whereas Pulp's status is more static since they're essentially a heritage act, so they aren't shooting themselves in the foot in the same way by accepting a sub slot.

I'd call both Pyramid headliner or bust at this very moment in their careers. (Though many here do think The 1975 aren't big enough and/or Matty Healy is too much of a hassle and liability for the bookers to be bothered with.)

Did they open with that before? I didn't see them on their last one.

Yep. Them walking out and starting with that in 2011 on the Park is probably one of my favourite ever Glastonbury moments - even when you are 99% sure who a secret act is, it's still exciting when it's confirmed and after days of rain and mud, the sun just coming out. Twas good 👌

didn't mean to double message but agreed, there's a convergence between Pulp being (if you can call it such) the downward curve and the likes of Fender being on the up, there's that sweet spot that pulls a perfect huge crowd in the sunset

having said that, i'd take pulp as Other Headliner all day long, the timing of them being the last of the night just seems 'right'
