Album of the Year 2022

Unsure if there’s a thread anywhere I couldn’t see any, so thought nows a decent time to strike up our yearly conversation.

My current top 5 in order:

Black Country New Road - Ants From Up There

Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You

Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia

Foals - Life Is Yours

Kendrick Lamar - Mr Morale and the Big Steppers

unsure if there’ll be much change, Amazons new record this weekend potentially as singles have been good, and need to get round to the new JID album. 1975, AM and Courting all to come too

I can’t see my top 2 changing at all, they’re so far ahead of all of the other albums.

The Callous Daoboys and 156/Silence will work their way in for sure. There’s also some great releases coming up which I’m excited for after the last few months have been a bit quieter.

Ashamed when throwing this list together I had completely missed Skinty Fia - Fontaines DC, has been by far one of my favourite albums of the year so it's madness that it somehow slipped my mind.

1975 album has gone straight in at number 2, absolutely adore it. AM in top 20, its a very good musical album, but im unsure how much i'll revisit it. Need to give Swifts new one a go

'Being Funny In A Foreign Language' is N.3 for me, also love everything about it. 'About You' is such a beautiful song and a definite new favourite of mine. Anticipation for their tour to begin is killing me, alongside releasing brilliant albums, they are the best live band on the planet. God Bless The 1975.

Unfortunately didn't think anything about 'The Car' which hurts as a huge Arctic Monkeys fan, sonically I feel like I should prefer it to TBH&C but it just does nothing for me. Felt like one long song to me and had no memorable moments throughout the entire album. Although I wasn't a fan of TBH&C it managed to capture my attention at certain points, this album has nothing.

Had a great time listening to Midnights, don't think I'll return to it as a complete body of work as much as I do Evermore of Folklore but it has some great tracks on it like 'Anti-Hero', 'Bejeweled' and 'Would've, Should've, Could've' on the extended version. Should definitely give it a listen as soon as you can, hope you have a good time with it.

Not a 1975 fan but will give the new one a go.

So far for me it's King Gizzard, Fontaines DC, Kendrick, Rosalia, Black Thought, The Smile, The Comet is Coming. Will be an easy top 10 to make this year.

The Car is dishwater. It's a parody album trying to take itself seriously.

Think 1975 will be high for me too, really like it after thinking their last two records were poor. Won me over at Reading this year too as my expectations were very low as I’ve seen them before and not been impressed along with the lose of RATM but I actually really enjoyed them and I’m loving the new record.
