You're right, it is still big. I remember the year of Fallout Boy, Panic at the Disco, Kings of Leon.

I think we are due back for a Fallout Boy showing again.

Fallout Boy // Eminem // Paramore

AJ Tracy // 21 Pilots // Royal Blood

This is absymal lol

No way are FOB MSE anymore, Royal Blood and AJ Tracey are both on the smaller side too i reckon they would be more suited as MSE subs (unless alongside someone massive).

Reckon the 1xtra may go now too, it’s original purpose was to help boost that type of music by giving it a platform, in which it has thoroughly succeeded

The equivalent today would be to give young, heavy guitar bands a platform. Perhaps they could call it ‘The pit’

Just saw this on the side bar, this is quite a mad and is clearly just what you (and those who upvoted) want.

Heavy guitar bands is hardly an emerging new genre that is popular with the kids like grime was on 1xtra

Nah I think Royal Blood are MSW headliners. I actually think there's a decent chance of them playing next year, too. It'll have been 5 years since they were last at the festival, new album out and they played a big slot at Glastonbury this year so won't be back there anytime soon.

The 1xtra was pretty much always empty when we passed in 2022. much like the pit in 2019…

They could focus on 2 days of one extra type stuff and 1 day of heavier if that’s where the cookie now crumbles, (as they did in the far gone days now where they had 2 heavy days and one dance day in there)

It completely depends on the purpose though. The 1xtra tent was originally bought in as ‘urban’ music did not have enough representation and they wanted somewhere were acts could showcase themselves.

This is clearly no longer the case, so has it served its purpose, if the kids no longer care about the randoms playing at 4pm.

What ever it is, it needs to be solid stuff, not sweep ups of who’s left, as ultimately that attracts no one…as we’ve see

Tbf, as someone who is into their rap, the 1Xtra lineup this year was ridiculously poor. Some alright names, but nothing compared to what they used to get on there - really weak year, so not surprised it wasn't busy.

I was talking about last year, it’s no surprise they didn’t bother this year either

I wouldn’t be surprised whatsoever if that’s one of the proposed stage changes they make, 3 rotating days in there…

FOB have sold an ungodly amount or tickets for their UK tour so I don’t think they would accept less than MSE. They’re more likely to just not play at all.

Yup, doubt the festival will touch them if they sold 10s of thousands of tickets in the U.K. recently after this year…

I think they are on the smaller side, they clearly aren't as established at major fests as say Biffy, Foals or QOTSA who have done (or meant to have done) it recently. Definitely in contention, can't stand them myself to be honest think they are naff

Imagine

MSE - Fall out boy

MSW - Royal Blood

…on the same day 😬

I’d  be off for a curry at about 7 bells I reckon

Ahhh, last year the acts I saw in there were busy (Leeds though).

Did you walk past when the acts you didn't want to see were on...?

Reckon I past it 9-10 times at reading, all likely relatively earlyish to be fair and it was half full maybe once.  V different to the previous year (21) where it always seemed pretty busy.

All very anecdotal but on a couple of occasions there were maybe 30-40 people in there....Couldve been rammed each and every time I didnt happen to pass it

Nah, looking back at the lineup though, last year was pretty weak in there too - probably will explain why it wasn't drawing the crowds, if they booked relevant acts other than Rap/Afro/Urban etc names with just one viral song, I'm sure it'll be busy again like it once used to be.

My lineup was tongue in cheek, but - there are bands due a return.

Fall-out Boy, Muse, Eminem, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Kasabian haven't played in a while.

They'll come out the box with some of the names. We will probably get a Cardi B as the rap name. It will be an entirely uninspiring lineup.

MSE//

Olivia Rodrigo > Yungblood

Cardi B > Aitch

Blink-182 > AJ Tracy

Paramore > Burna Boy

Kasabian > The Wombats

Royal Blood  > Two Door Cinema Club

Burna Boy is too big to sub, also doing another stadium show in London next year.

I don’t know if this has already been covered but it seems that the loyalty scheme codes will be sent out on the 14th September. I very much hope that these codes are not a limited time thing that expire before the lineup is even announced, but something tells me that is such an R&L caveat to the scheme.

The loyalty scheme ends 30th of SeptemberIMG_5577.thumb.png.7a64f3adebc23972d2e20fe4aafe459e.png
