Is he actually in the know though? So A7X, Green Day and someone else. Also, if there’s no classic headliner and it’s not MCR or SOAD I genuinely can’t think of who else it could be. Would RATM count as a classic header?

I promised I wouldn't say which was a stupid promise to make, it could get their friend in trouble! Like I said though, this could all be complete nonsense

Something I think is safe to say, I've not seen a single person on Reddit, any forums or Facebook get all 3 headliners in the same prediction which is interesting.

Also they're saying to expect an announcement around the 7th of November so if that turns out to be correct, my belief in what I've been told will skyrocket!

A7X - Blink 182 - NIN

A7X - Blink 182 - MCR

Avenged have grown in size since the 2014 headline set and definitely had a bigger crowd in 2018. As they haven't played the UK since Download 2018 they will be a very big draw for Download. I get the new album is divisive (I think it is great), but people will turn up to hear them drop the hits. They are one of the few bonafide metal headliners Download will still have by the end of the decade, so they need to diversify and bring new headliners in and MCR one they really need.

Would Green Day or Blink be more palatable to you and your mates than MCR?

Missing my point that its the lack of a big classic metal headliner across the 3 bands you've named. Not talking about each band in isolation, but about the combo.

A7X I think have shrunk in size since 2018. Maybe it's just my social group that's making me think that. But I hardly see anyone talk about them apart from the off comment like you've made.

I think it's a pretty obvious bet they are, a band that's only headlined once and gotten bigger is a headliner for them that's not overdone and an easy booking.

A7X have headlined 3 times.

I can confirm they were in the bands I got told at least. I think they were always the most likely of the original leak!

Shame. Boring unimaginative choice.

Don’t know.

It’s really hard to predict who will headline major festivals next year. Except A7X, I think they are 1000% in.

So you are saying that if Download needs to have one of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Kiss, Ozzy or Aerosmith for it to be worthwhile? If that is the case Download will die as those bands aren't going to be around much longer and almost half of them are never going to play the festival again.

Long term

On Avenged, I'd say that their new album is one of the most talked about albums of this year and like I said are one of the few bonafide 'metal' headliners the fest will have left with Slipknot, Bring Me, Tool, Rammstein and System, and three of them Download will likely only get once more if at all.

The pool is really small for acts you could call 'metal' until Ghost and Parkway make the step up, they push Evanescenvce up or depending on how things go Architects, Gojira, Sleep Token and Spiritbox.

Then you have Biffy and one of bookings Download may get once more such as Muse or RATM.

So it makes sense that Download is looking at bringing MCR back or going after acts like Green Day, Blink, FOB, Foos, Pearl Jam or Paramore and trying to bring new headliners through.

Glad you flagged NIN as they would be a brilliant headliner, just not sure AC would go for them because of the tours they do, but I can see them getting a massive crowd out of pure curiosity and want to see a Trent Reznor stage show.

I was counting SOAD, Slipknot, Tool, Rammstein, RATM alongside Metallica, Iron Maiden etc. And what I was saying is in the current scene a lot of metalheads go to Download to see big bands like that, so if you dropped them like your proposed line up of A7X - Green Day - MCR those fans wouldn't go but would be replaced by others, but then Download would have to decide whether to try to entice them back in future.

Your right A7X headlined twice, sorry got confused. And I see far more buzz about bands like Ghost, Spiritbox and Sleep Token then I do about A7X but like I said maybe that's just my own social group.

I don't necessarily agree that the line-up would put off 25% of the audience, but get that it may not work for you and your group. I also think that while it may put people of next year if Download came out with a line-up of Maiden/Ghost/Blink that people who didn't go for a year would readily come back.

In your group of 'metal' headliners would you not have Bring Me in there? Outside of Slipknot they are one of the heaviest headliners the fest as ever head along with Rammstein and put on of 'the' definitive headline slots this year.

Maybe Avenged don't have the hype around them that those 3 acts do, but neither do System or Tool (and I'd be happy to see both of them back at the festival).

Maybe Fall Out Boy as a new headliner. Would also explain the I wish comment after I predicted A7X, SOAD & Green Day. 3rd headliner would have to be a Blink, Green Day or someone bigger if they had FOB and A7X though but maybe they’ve struggled if Rammstein and IM dropped out.

Avenged, Fall Out Boy and either Green Day or MCR

@Judas Yeast Can you confirm:

1 first time headliner.

A7X

1 [other] returning headliner.

If so can you say how many times the returning headliner have played/headlined before and if the 1st time headliner have played the fest (but not headlined). Reckon I can make a decent guess based on that.

Do you know how many bands they're looking at announcing?

Don't think he will reply as that would basically be giving them away
