I definitely think there's some anarchic spirit left in the festival. Ok, maybe the Pyramid has been cleansed of that over the past decade or so, but maybe it needs a spark to reignite it? I don't know about you, but those skits repeated in between each of the Pyramid acts don't exactly "recharge my activism".

It takes more than some clever art in the south east corner or Billy Bragg's tent to really get people engaged in the important matters going on around the planet. The foundations of the festival are deeply rooted in social and political thinking, the day it's completely eradicated, is the day the festival dies, for me.

The (cancelled) Reading show of a couple years ago felt like the weirdest fit for RATM. They looked completely out of place, not just amongst the majority of the other acts but within the more corporate environment. I think the only anarchic spirit left at R&L is the annual Sunday night riot.

So yeah, I think that they're a good match for Glastonbury and what both parties represent. Those songs might be 30 years old, but the content is more relevant than ever.

The Pyramid can either reinvent itself as a platform for protest and enlightenment, as well as the conveyor belt of pop acts with nothing to say or legendary artists looking for one last payday. I think there's room for both.

Yeah good point and I really do hope they start making some more radical bookings like that. It does feel like a lot of the pyramid bookings are aimed at what the majority of viewers at home are going to enjoy, which I guess is down to their relationship with the BBC. Given that there are so many viewers at home it would be the perfect platform for more politics, and hopefully they do utilise that more going forward, rather than it becoming increasingly sterile (albeit still great fun!).

A disappointing ticket day will hurt less if it winds up being for the P!nk / Dua Lipa / Coldplay year

Why is Dua Lipa always assumed, what have I missed?

Could it not be P!nk and Madonna this year that fits Emily E two first timers comment.

Dua Lipa depending on when the album release and tour comes could easily be a headliner in 2025

Pink did a stadium tour here summer just gone, so it's definitely odd to come back for a second bite of the cherry so soon. You know who else did a summer stadium tour over here then came back the following year for a few dates and a Glastonbury headline slot? That's right, it's forum favourites Guns'N'Roses!

It's doesn't seem like an especially unusual pattern.

Elton did it (and then some) for a start, and The Killers, and probably a dozen other acts if I could actually remember that level of detail.

Well youre making that assumption it doesn't include the festival...

And whether you think its worth the money or not is irrelevant.

Anyway the point is.... with a deal signed with Live Nation the chances of her doing a Live Nation festival are much better than Glasto

The whole point of forums are for discussion

I think its worth them spaffing millions on AM or Eminem as they are perfect for the audience

Rihanna - not so much, and thats perfectly ok

I'm not talking at all about whether she's doing glasto or reading - just that she seems unlikely for Reading and far more likely to do her own stadiums shows

P!nk would be the absolute epitome of proving doubters wrong, but I just can't see her headlining. I can't really explain why either, something just doesn't feel quite 'right' about it. <shrug emoji>

Dua would (will?) be fantastic, I've no doubt.

Coldplay would be Coldplay. Great set, solid performance, and just a lovely bunch of lads.

So nothing really 'wrong' with that trio on paper, but I think there'd be less Moments than this year.

What possible reason would she have for not wanting to do both Coachella and Glastonbury in the same year? Surely doing both and being a huge talking point at both ends of summer would be much better promo for a new album than doing one a year later.

The current trend for 2-3 year tours means it could help to have one big talking point in April for when the album comes out, then another in summer 2025 to sell another set of dates through into 2026. That’s the best I have.

Another theory on the either/or story - Maybe someone from Camp Dua or her label has told a journos she’s been offered both, and instead of reporting it straight, they’ve embellished it into an article on a ‘bidding war’, and then everyone’s run the same article based on the original one.

Exactly.

”Hey Dua,

Want to headline the two biggest festivals on the planet, maximise your exposure and elevate you to the upper echelons of stardom?”

No thanks
