No chance

Why not? Because you're not a fan?
She's exactly the sort of act Glastonbury loves giving a push to, and she's been working her way up through the glasto stages with extremely well received sets every time.  Plus her albums have won loads of awards e.g. Brit awards, Mercury. Plus she's female and Emily is supposedly trying to "create female headliners".

I’m a big fan, but she’s a long way from being Pyramid headliner level and I don’t really see a path for her to get there. She doesn’t exactly do hits and being a great live act with awards isn’t enough to justify the bump up. I can definitely see her getting a fourth down Pyramid slot in the coming years, but I think that’ll be where her rise up the lineup ends, and that’s nothing to be sniffed at at all, it’s just realistic.

She’s not getting the nod in 2025 or anything, but if we’re talking potential future headliners I think she has to be in the conversation.

Yeah I don't think she'll do it in the next couple of years (maybe an other stage headliner first), but if she gets another great album out I think she will. A lot of her tracks are actually quite poppy and people seeing her on TV would realise they actually really like her stuff, and she'd become a lot more popular as a result. Also Emily specifically announced her on the radio as the West Holts headliner in 2022, so she's certainly on her radar as someone to push.
The fact that Stormzy headlined off the back of one album (and his albums less accessible to non rap fans) makes me think anything can happen!

Stormzy was the perfect storm of an act with a ton of hype behind him and a handful of successful singles in a year where the roster of festival headliners available was pretty bleak and so the festival decided to take a punt which is something they hadn’t done in a long time, and it paid off (and imo the festival put a lot of effort in to making sure it paid off). I’d love Simz to get a similar shot, but it seems unlikely to me - despite all the acclaim, at large, she still hasn’t broken in to the mainstream in the way she’d need to and I think Introvert was the time it needed to happen, but I suppose who knows what the next album will bring.

I think it's somewhere in between. Don't think she'll ever headline (although maybe she'll drop something really commercially successful, who knows), but do think she could be given a bit of a bump up because of all the reasons mentioned already that make her an act that Glasto would push. Would be cool to see her subbing Dave in 2025, or something similar.

Well I hope she does get there at some point and she definitely deserves it. I wonder what glasto views it's role as when it comes to booking - to purely entertain the masses, to help out up and coming artists or to introduce music to people who wouldn't otherwise listen to it

The past few years it seems that they've booked the biggest credible acts that they can. I reckon if they had the same booking policy from a couple of decades ago in 2023 we'd have got a trio of The 1975, Lana Del Rey + Elton John (or similar), but it's so big now that Lana was willing to take a second stage slot and they opted for huge stadium selling artists instead.

Too much of the former and nowhere enough of the later

I think everything they do is with the intention of entertaining. It’s just as to whether it’s with things people know they want, or they don’t. Sometimes the thing people they want turns out to not be great (e.g.Oasis, 2004) and the thing they didn’t know they wanted blows their mind (e.g. Muse 2004). I think Llana proved this year she wasn’t ready to headline, and the festival probably knew her reputation which is why they didn’t take more of a punt on her.

I believe Emily will give Simz an opportunity to headline as soon as possible. She's definitely on the right path with critical acclaim and five-star live reviews, and the step up would already be justifiable imo - even more so after her next album if there's one or two songs with a decent amount of radio-play outside of the R6 echo chamber. It would elevate her to a household name as it has done with Stormzy (when he was initially rumoured ahead of 2019 I seriously questioned that decision even as a fan of his). Pyramid headliner and household name are kind of chicken and egg for some artists.

So give her a slot on the Pyramid that's appropriate for her popularity, and see how it works. Personally I think she's nowhere near 'big' enough to be headlining, but exposure to playing on the biggest stage is one step towards the possibility
