2024 Headliners

Apropos of nothing really, i'd just like to share that an ex-girlfriend of mine thought that Tame Impala was one fella, perhaps of Turkish/north London origin, who's name was Tamen Parlour. I swear i nearly shat my leg off with laughter as she took me through her thought processes there.

So just a bog standard headlining everywhere that summer booking.

And...... If Madonna was doing the same you wouldnt care. Coldplay is touring next summer also. So all 3 headliners have gigs around the fest, youre upset they didnt just fly over for a one off now? Glasto literally cant afford to do such a thing with their headliners.

She’s not getting the nod in 2025 or anything, but if we’re talking potential future headliners I think she has to be in the conversation.

in the conversation as much as anyone else, and  might even be one  of the females this year.

Lol. We’re happy with what they can afford. It’s not like they wheel out a load of cheap crap every year is it?

I’m a big fan, but she’s a long way from being Pyramid headliner level and I don’t really see a path for her to get there. She doesn’t exactly do hits and being a great live act with awards isn’t enough to justify the bump up. I can definitely see her getting a fourth down Pyramid slot in the coming years, but I think that’ll be where her rise up the lineup ends, and that’s nothing to be sniffed at at all, it’s just realistic.

If she drops another commercial banger of an album, similar to Fender, it won't be long before she headlines.

Yeah she's released 2 very good albums in the last 2 years.
On another matter I do wonder whether Stormzy will every play Glasto again (having previously been a regular). I guess once you headline it doesn't look great to go back with a lower slot (and I don't picture them booking him again to headline in a hurry).

She is releasing tunes - they're just not becoming the ginormo-hits that they should be.

Clearly not tunes then - at least for the commercial market and you do need to hit that to headline glasto

I'd argue otherwise. She's not particularly leftfield or doing anything particularly uncommercial. She just hasn't gone to the next level with them success-wise.

But I agree that you do need the well known commercial hits.

all well and good if you'd argue otherwise but if they aren't clicking with the general public then she ain't getting the call

Literally just Stormzy though really. Who else wasn’t already a well known bonafide headliner in the last fifteen or so years?

That's a fair challenge and you're not wrong - but it's also fair to say it is more difficult for Simz to get to that level organically in the UK, not least because the music she plays isn't mass-appeal pop (not that there's anything wrong with that music). If you look at her peers in terms of 'bonafide headliners' from her era you're looking at Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi, who she doesn't stand a chance against. This is why I can see Emily wanting to give her that step-up at some point, similarly to how it was given to Stormzy. Not as a tick-box exercise, but as a contemporary and genuinely exciting British booking. We haven't had a Pyramid-headliner-level female hip hop artist in the UK ever before, so the first time it happens, it probably won't be the most glaringly obvious name.

The music world is full of artists who never really "made it big", despite being so much better than some of those who became massive.

This is not the fault of the artist, the "blame" lies partly on the listening public and partly on mainstream radio stations promoting shite.

I love Little Simz, she's by far and away the most accomplished rapper in the UK right now and I was at her show on Saturday and it was incredible. That being said, there is no way she's in the running to headline Glasto at the moment off of 0 charting songs. Sure charts are now obsolete and she would absolutely crush a headline performance but she simply isn't big enough. The comparisons with Stormzy are also way off as, yeah, he only had one album, but had multiple hits off of it which were huge and he had started collaborating with pop artists such as Little Mix. Until Little Simz does either of those (or both) she won't be getting bumped up to headline. Would love it if they booked her this year 3rd/4th Pyramid or high Other as I would almost certainly be there.

Part of it could be to do with the way she markets herself. I think she has plenty of catchy tracks that would very much click with the general public, if they were to be shoved down everyone's throats on radio 1 etc.

She's on her own label and one owned by Sony - who also have Disclosure, Steve Lacy, Finneas etc on their record

Money is there and if wanted could 100% shove her music down throats on r1
