2024 Headliners

FWIW, though I have no reason to doubt that the person that told me the Madonna thing was telling their truth, I'm not entirely convinced they were fed correct information because they said "I don't think so" when I mentioned Dua Lipa.

As I said, take as much salt as you want on this one

I saw somebody stick supposed Pearl Jam dates in another thread, with what appeared to be UK activity over Glastonbury weekend.

If they properly nailed a pure hits set, they could knock it out of the park.

If this is true - and why not - then who  was Emily talking about as a late breaking woman headliner that we’d all understand about? Beyoncé? Or was it really about the legend slot and it was Stevie Nicks?

This is my thinking - the two female headliners potentially referring to Stevie Nicks as a legend, to be billed in the same way as Diana Ross in 2022?

Would still leave a question over the American artist that Emily was referring to, could be any number of different names.

Scanning the Pearl Jam hits set for evidence of a hit.

I do like Pearl Jam, but I'll fully concur I may have used the wrong language there.

I didn't actually realise until I was putting that setlist together that they don't appear to have ever pulled a number one album in the UK either.

Probably, but let us not douse the flames of speculation!

This is where I'm at. She's gone out of her way to stress legend is a fourth headliner and if there are two female headliners and one of them's the legend then that means just one actual female headliner.

I think we've got:

1x female headliner (Dua Lipa the frontrunner)

1x big, American headliner (could be Madonna but personally doubt it as not expecting this one to be female)

1x headliner (Coldplay the frontrunner)

1x female legend (either Stevie Nicks or Shania Twain seems to be where people are at)

Emily has often said in interviews before that the Legend Slot is 'basically the 4th headliner" but at no point have they tried to claim it actually is a headliner (i.e. your headliners are Fiday act, Saturday act, Sunday act and Legend). I don't see that changing any time soon

I mean, didn't she stress that she considered Lizzo the "fourth headliner" last year? (Highly disingenuous, I'd argue.)

I've taken at face value that two female artists means two Pyramid bill-toppers, but if she's returning to the Legends Slot as the "fourth headliner", then it may well be she's playing a dash of obfuscation in regards to the trio up top.

Hell, if Madonna has bailed, then get Dave or Sam Fender or The 1975 on there pronto. You're going to sell out anyway, and you're going to sell out 2025 too. Give them the spot.

I don't think she'd be so disingenuous when talking about trying to book two headliners. If she considers the legend slot as a headliner then we've already had two female headliners in 2022.

I understand P!nk also has dates leaked for Glasgow after Glastombury. They are apparently on sale next week. anything big happening this weekend regarding Glastombury which would stop one of the headline bands releasing tour news?

Do you know where the dates are?

From what I understand she had Glasgow dates leaked for the week after Glasto in a similar manner she had Liverpool date leaked for the week of.  no idea what the dates are. could easily be TRNSMT i suppose or on Glasgow Green in the run up like Biffy Clyro did a few years ago.

I'd still be delighted with Pink if Madonna is a no-show.

the only date she could likely do if rumours are true is the Sunday but that would be 3 x dates on the bounce. she is more than capable as she is an absolute machine but usually bands take a little breath before Glasto dont they.

Yeah, if those Glasgow dates get confirmed, that's an effective rule-out.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate caveat. Ah well, a man can dream.

If we've got the Madonna cash, I'd try and convince Billy Joel. Needs very little in terms of production prep, and currently has no dates scheduled for that weekend. (His final MSG residency shows are start of June and end of July.)

She only said that because the top line was all geezers.

Of course, but it also felt a bit like a desperate lunge to fend off criticism. She didn't address that GNR had replaced a female headliner until after the festival, from memory?

Now, I am aware that undercutting GNR by saying that before their slot would have caused some consternation - effectively admitting they were a back-up - but at the same time, the whole spiel about considering Lizzo the "fourth headliner", along with her spot on the top line of the bill - felt a bit disingenuous.

Throw in the Lana del Rey fiasco - though that seems more to be a case of an artist throwing a tantrum - and it was just a bit of a bizarre attempt to shift the narrative.
