Coldplay again is bad news for the festival. Beyond stale.

Desolate. Bleak. Lacklustre. Unambitious. Dull. Worrying if thats the best they can do.

There's clearly been a typo, the second paragraph was what you meant to put in the weather thread.

I was towards the back, and I took this photo whilst Noel was on. It was easily the biggest crowd I'd ever seen (Admittedly I'm usually closer to the front so can't really gauge it as much)

Thing is we arrived at this point this photo was taken from when Noel was finishing and then decided to see how far we could get. We got to between the sound desks.

No chance of that at Elton.

Yeah I also got about 4 rows from the barrier in the crowd movement between Noel and Paul. Was at the edge for Noel too, wasn't even in the thick of it.

Got to the back of Elton's crowd just before he came on and I could hardly even walk around the back. I left both sets and came back for the end of both - Paul's was definitely more scarce at the back. Obviously still massive, though.

I'm a huge Paul Mccartney's fan and I tried my best to be as close as possible - and i stood right beside the inside barrier. It was packed - an it was magical!

Was there a lot of crowd churn between Noel and Macca? Can't imagine many people turning up for Noel Gallagher but deciding they don't fancy Paul McCartney afterwards.

Yeah there were quite a few leaving when I was heading in to the pit, although I ended up getting stuck to the left side rather than making my way right in so obviously not a ton of people giving up their specks.

Same happened before the Stones. Folk watched Primal Scream then made a beeline for the pit exit before they caught the real thing.

Unfathomable.

Turns out they were correct, but surely they couldn't have known that pre performance.

...that we've sungalong to for years, and years, and years, and years. Doesn't exactly scream 'contemporary, edgy, up and coming' which I really wish Glastonbury would get back to.

The festival's going to have to scale back on the megastar headliners soon, if only because, without repeating R & L style, it's fast running out of acts that are the size of Reg, Stones, U2, Springsteen, Jay-Z, Beyonce etc.
Going back to picking acts when they're 2 or 3 albums in and still on the up, the way they had with the likes of Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, Chems, Blur, Pulp etc. during the late 90's/early 00's.

Oldplay have made a fortune out of being absolutely that!

I'm impressed at you folks who can watch two acts, with an interval in between and not need to nip off for a wee and don't think it's just age, when I was younger and on pints it was a struggle too.

It's the pints that are the problem. If a long shift is forthcoming it's ditch the fluids time - just swig rum, straight no mixer.

The friends we were with Noel for did exactly that and went off to watch some dance thing as far as I remember?

We saw NG and then went for loo/food/drinks and then watched the Mac. It was busy but quite manageable.

2022 was probably the best balanced year for a long time.
Dua and O-Rod would be too, if that happens this year.
Stormzy gotta be worth a shout on his next album cycle? Or will he be collecting millions from mega stadiums by then?

I think it's usually pretty balanced. 2023 would be an exception, but that's an outlier.

Some of us found our way through the crowd and met mates during NG without too much difficulty. Did take a longer route to get to the nearest entrance to the field by them though, rather than just take the most direct route.

Stormzy is not on his way to stadiums.

I thought that he'd return to headline again sometime this decade after his 2019 set, but as time gone on and his career seems to have somewhat stagnated I'm not so sure anymore. Think he's one and done. Which is fine because he delivered a pretty iconic set.
