In hindsight Emily inventing the smartphone was a bridge too far.  Michael wouldn't have created the iPhone back when he was in charge.

Always had Michael as a Nokia 3210 kinda guy.

Loves to play snake.

Right, set speculation time:

Stevie Wonder: 90 minutes

Dua Lipa: 90 minutes

Coldplay: 105 minutes

More fun to speculate on the most popular costumes in the crowd:

Stevie Wonder: Kaftan / Woman In Red / Ebony & Ivory Piano Keyboard

Dua Lipa:  Harry Houdini / Mermaid Barbie / Elton John

Coldplay: Vagina-Scented Candle / Piss-stained Bedsheet

I think we could do with more hip-hop tbh. I get why Glastonbury book Coldplay because they give mates rates, but boring shite that reminds me of the early 2010s (Goulding, James Bay, Jess Glynne etc) can get in the bin.

Definitely a distinct lack of hip-hop and metal for a self-proclaimed contemporary performing arts festival

Which just happened to be the same time social media started to become a really prominent feature of our lives everywhere, not just at Glastonbury because of Emily.

Yeah this. Glastonbury reflects trends in the outside world much more than it drives them.

What is the actual issue with social media/ Glastonbury I'm missing here?

Coachella and a few other line-ups this year are full of stuff that seems to be big on TikTok and nowhere else. I don't think that's the case with Glastonbury, and if it does bother you - go see something on the acoustic stage or whatever where that won't be an issue.

(Imo) Some promoters took chance post pandemic to redefine line ups - primarily around tiktok and streaming stats. That glasto has resisted this regressive approach is to their eternal credit.

I'm old enough to have seen Oasis on the 'Mid. It was exactly that. Mid.

Appalling live band.

Wouldn’t even call it Mid.

Oasis 2004 remains straight up the worst headline set I’ve ever seen on that stage.

Isn't that just why anyone does anything now?

Not sure this makes sense? Emily's approach helping Glastonbury into a social media place is why everyone does it now?

Right so Glastonbury were forced to used social media as they do now because people took pictures of themselves at the festival?

No one is that people of the normal people and who use social media don't attend Glastonbury. Glastonbury sold out every year before it needed to jump on social media 'trends' as you've put. Their own hashtags and such links makes them appear on socials differently and that became the new 'cool way' to be to find everything related which has just grew and grew. Glastonbury could make all their posts without any of that and still sell and attract well over the standard for interest interest.

Does Glastonbury struggle to sell tickets?

That's the point he's trying to make. Coachella didn't struggle to sell tickets either when they booked a decent bill with $200 less tickets. I wouldn't pay £545 for Coachella without being guaranteed a preffered camping spot. I wouldn't pay that price for Glastonbury currently and I live 3.5 hours away.
