Headliners 2023

I'm a fan of both GnR and Metallica but suspect the average Glastonbury goer will know more GnR songs than Metallica ones. Appetite for Destruction is one of the biggest selling albums of all time so although not singles , songs like It's So Easy , Rocket Queen and Mr Brownstone are problem reasonably well known.  The same can be said to a lesser extent with Use Your Illusions 1 & 2 . I'd suggest the average Glastonbury Pyramid headline fan will be aware of more GnR songs than not just Metallica but also  The Cure , Arcade Fire and possibly many more headliners.

Oh and how can fans of GnR be stuck in 1981 when they weren't even formed then . Like them or loathe them , they're a worthy headliner.

You think the average Glastonbury attendee wouldn't know all of:

Just Like Heaven

Boys Don't Cry

In Between Days

Friday I'm in Love

Close to Me

Lovesong

A Forest

Pictures of You

The Lovecats

Lullaby

This isn't even a personal preference thing, for example with Elton John - I won't be there as it's not my bag but I can completely respect that's a top tier booking. Anyone who considers Guns n' Roses a solid headliner should be clowned on

Sigh. Another one. It is a personal preference thing.

i've been running this site for 25 years and haven't shredded the headliner choices until this year.

Things being samey isn’t necessarily an issue in itself.

Elton John backing out and being replaced with Biffy Clyro would make this thread less circular for a few days, but it wouldn't mean we get a better festival.

In the meantime the Acts Touring thread is throwing up all sorts of lively candidates. Weyes Blood, Hamish Hawk and Say She She have all seen this guy pop up in recent days

Yeah that's true. No one I'm hugely excited for yet but the momentum is slowly building.

its tiresome that you and others invent your own lies.

Go on then mate, explain how I'm a liar and alienate someone else on here that's literally posting in support of you. Given the point of my post was that you're no more tiresome in your repeated posting than most of the people on this thread.

Or at least call me a nonce or something proper.

So now its complaining about a 3 hour GnR set full of hits while Macca did 3 hours last year where half of the set was solo material which bored plenty of people I imagine til it finally got to the meaty part.

Err what?

go back and read what that was in response to, and then work out, which part[s] you made up.

I am in awe: your perceptiveness and sense of details are unmatched. You should put it to good use with like, a detailed timeline of interesting GL facts. Or something.

(yes attempt at humour)

So GNR cashing in in the UAE huh? Interestingly I recently read an article about cashing in with corporate/middle east money gigs and apparently the only big ones that always refused are The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Bruce Springsteen. Cue to discussions about Springsteen and ticketmaster, Depeche Mode as headliner, etc etc.

Pretty sure Depeche
Mode played Abu Dhabi after a Grand Prix there

They probably would ( maybe not A Forest which was only a minor hit or Pictures of You , which is my favourite by the way ) so I’d say the average person that night knew at best 7-8 songs that they played . Not a lot really . I thought they were superb that night , but lots of people around my hardly knew any of the songs until the end

If they knew they were going to see the cure at Glastonbury then most people would have put on a playlist in the run up

Arctic Monkeys

GNR

Elton John

it is a bit all white male privilege, I thought Glastonbury would have been actively avoiding that .

I hope the above is wrong

Add in Lana, Lizzo and Little Nas as subs and suddenly it’s ok.

it still says they are dragging up acts from the 70's and 80's male acts , saying there isn't anything better that the old white men to be in the prominent spot light.

it really doesn't effect me, I have not seen a headliner in years
