CAMPERVAN QUESTION - CONVERTED VW WITH ROOF TENT

Hey Guys,

I have been to glasto 3/4 times now so know the site well however we have always camped this year we are wanting to take our converted VW caddy with us, the inside is kitted out to a high standard with kitchen, fridge, bench etc. We have a tentbox roof tent on the top which is where we sleep and then an awning on the side has anyone done this and been fine in recent years or has anyone seen anyone with anything similar? I am assuming its fine as its fully kitted out however i dont want to turn up and then be turned away as the tent box is on top and not sleeping inside does this make sense?

Thanks,

Jess

If it's got a sink and cooker inside and looks like a campervan you'll be fine, the staff may want a look inside but they use common sense, they are only trying to keep out regular vans that are not designed for camping, I've seen vans with tent boxes at other festivals but can't recall seeing any at Glasto though I'm sure there will be some.

Thanks so much for replying I appreciate it! Yes its a fully kitted out camper and I guess tent boxes are more popular now so hopefully they will allow hoping some info comes out when the tickets are released.

I saw a Landrover with a tent on top one year... I could only imagine falling out of it and breaking something...

but as said, as long as it is adequately kitted out (which it sounds) you will be fine. per the GF website :

What counts as ‘suitable fitted facilities’ in a camper/caravan?
Your campervan/caravan MUST have purpose-built fitted sleeping facilities and either fitted cooking or washing facilities. Any converted vehicles must clearly be live-in vehicles. This does not mean simply a van with a piece of foam cut to size for a bed, and a bucket for washing!

A team of campsite staff and security staff will check that campervans and caravans coming into these fields have bona fide living accommodation. No other vehicles will be let onto these fields under any circumstances – not even late replacement vehicles in the case of a breakdown – sorry.

Just to add they are not as strict as that description makes it sound

I took my partially converted camper last year with no obvious cooking or washing setup and it was fine

As long as it looks like a camper inside and not a panel Van it's no issue

If it looks like a camper

and it smells like a camper

it probably IS a camper

This is good to read, seems GFL haven't completely lost the plot.

The regs aren't about GFL 'losing the plot', they're about the safety of vehicles that are not correctly converted for living/sleeping and the lives of the people that use them.  Being asphyxiated in an old Transit isn't a good way to go.
