West Holts headliner seems a logical placement at the moment.  His style of dance music is more inkeeping with WH's sensibilities and the sound quality is superior to the Other Stage imo.

However he could possibly end up on the Other stage if hype continues to build and the extra space is needed.

Whether you personally agree or not, he's one of the most hyped producers / artists to come out in the last few years and this year could be a defining moment in his career.  Either as his high point or the event that helps propel him to new heights.

If (and it is a big if) he does that and follows it up with an album of certified bangers which reaches the ubiquity that The Prodigy and The Chems did, that would surely put his name in the conversation for a Pyramid headline slot in the future.

Like @Matt42 said, if he played guitar or was a rock act and had a comparable rise/buzz about him, there'd be less pushback to the suggestion that he could  headline in the future.

FWIW, I think his albums are generally good but can be underwhelming at times however the arrangements for his live shows address this.  Whether he will live up to the hype is up in the air but I'm excited to find out.

That’s the reality though, there will always be more pushback to a dance act headlining hence why it’s less likely he will compared to a comparable guitar act.

For many people music is someone singing into a microphone with instruments, dance music will always be seen by many people as more of a sub genre to music itself. You can debate if that’s right it wrong or not, but as it stands it’s just a fact. A dance act will never have the same universal cut through, because it’s just not recognised in the same way by some people.

Whether you agree with it or not, that pushback is there for a dance act, so it needs to be factored in to the thinking.

ive seen him live a few times and its alot more than just "bicep"

its a very emotional show, he uses alot of clips from spoken word and poetry mixed in with banging dance tunes. its both an emotionally charged liveset with alot of jumping around like loons. it will be a wonderful and moving end to a glastobury.

Right, got in the car this morning and said "Play Actual life 3" .....

40 mins later, after maybe 1 or 2 more upbeat songs the album finished, is it me I thought, am I just too old now to get it, is this really dance music? (As yet have not watched the vid above labelled, Jungle, is that his own material or a DJ set?)...........So, I said, "Play music by Orbital",

Satan dropped and I was instantly transported to a certain field in 2004 and 10 (10 not their best set I admit) and boy !!!! that is dance music, then Chime, then Lush it goes on and on.

So, for me, Mr Again is merely an Amuse-Bouche for someone like, The Prodigy, Fat Boy, Orbital, Chems, Nero, Chase and Status....

Each of course entitled to their opinions, but as a lover of dance, I just don't get it.

Peace out, one love to all !

This where he'll fall short IMO, as many other dance acts have done.

To go from being big "in the scene" to being omnipresent and having tunes everybody has heard is the challenge.

Only really Calvin Harris who has done it recently.

Harris tracks are totally mainstream. Agree FA on other is a total stretch this time around but popularity could support WH still due to the buzz. And what is Glasto if not a festival where acts get a leg up?!

That’s what I mean though, to top The Pyramid there has to be more mainstream appeal/crossover.

I love Fred but can’t see past Other as his ceiling.

If he continues with his Actual Life albums, then yeah The Other is the highest he could probably get.  They're lovely enough albums with some beautiful moments and a scattering of bangers but I feel that diary format has it's limitations regarding mainstream appeal

Although -

Yeah I think the Actual Life series will remain a trilogy, and he’ll move on to something different next that could potentially push him to greater heights.

Also it’s a bit of a self own to those saying his music is majorly downbeat and boring, yet look at the hype he’s created with those projects. A more focused, commercial release could definitely push him to Pyramid headline heights.

I think he's got an album with Brian Eno coming out that is similar to AL, but then said he's going to take a break before releasing any more within that framework, so it'll be interesting to see what comes next.

Agree, but I was saying his ceiling now is below that. WH tops IMHO.

OK I get you.

I originally thought he’d be WH this year then move up to Other a few years later, but it seems some folk on here have info he’s headlining the latter.

Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Headline Other, then disappear.  No need to drag it out 🙂

And when it comes to electronic music, making it ‘headliner big’ usually means you’ve fully commercialised your sound and lost your initial fanbase. If Fred were to ever reach a level of popularity that he’d be considered a headliner, I doubt many people on here would want him there and he’d end up doing the likes of Creamfields instead. This isn’t the 90’s were electronic music is a relatively new and exciting thing and Chems and Prodigy are rising up lineups whilst sticking to their guns - you’re basically either a smaller act who the ‘heads all enjoy playing the club circuit, or a headliner getting played on Radio One and doing soulless huge gigs for mega £££. I just don’t see a path for Fred to make it to the top of the Pyramid without it just seeming like an awful idea by the time he’s big enough.

And again, Other headliner is perfect for big electronic acts, so I really don’t see why they’d start fucking with that now.
