I rarely make attire purchases now, but if I do it's charity shops. They are and always were lovely places to be. That said, I do like lovely design, and sometimes that can only be found in contemporary fashions. I don't buy such things, I look at them. I even had a bash at constructing a Romany Gipsy type piece for a woman - see photo.

I can definitely see that photo, you've fixed yerself 😊

My first car was like that 😊

Badly hand painted marina palmed off on me by a geezer at work.

My kind of first car was a company car. There were two surveyors positions and they came with a car - to get around surveying. Anyway,. it was an insane situation as the only other two company cars were the CEO's and her right wing man's. So we (the two surveyors) kind of stood out as having a big perk that nobody else got. They even bought me a brand new car once. I was a little naughty with that car. I once found myself driving on a sea road in it when the tide was already more in that would have been liked. I was getting off Shell Island. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I didn't wash down the underside of that car. I suspect that the salt water won't have done the underside much good. I mean, the whole floor etc could fall out away from the body of the car. Then you;'d have this Flintstones type car arrangement going on! And yes,I have had a smoke, so am now rambling.

He he, I'm assuming those days before everything was galvanised?

I like the expression "right wing man", he he.

Hello clarkete,

Fuck knows. I mean on the galvanising front. Maybe it was galvanised and didn't suffer any harm. Oh my good God, maybe I could get to tick that one off as a non runner. That would assuage the Roman Catholic guilt some. Actually, about that last bit - just because I said it, it doesn't mean that i still suffer from it. Glad we've all got that one sorted - natch!

They look fabulous, but I’m not sure they are suitable for a muddy year

It wouldn't always be a wise thing to source your footwear only from charity shops. In addition, do even the most ardent of 'green' supporters source their underwear from charity shops, or do they buy new?

I always source my foot ware from Charity shops the last 25 years why wouldn’t you.

Anyone got any leads on bargain threads or otherwise nifty Glastonbury couture?

My own personal vibe is getting incrementally more depraved year on year and 2023 feels like the year to step it up.

I started theming my Glastonbury's a few years ago, I've done Super Heroes, Star Wars, I'm thinking mad loud Hawaiian shirts this year :)

Because you're great Steve, and I'm not. Happy now?

Oh, and I have a very real phobia about second hand footwear. Please don't try to do 'the science' on this one, as it'll not work. It would be an extraordinarily odd situation for me to buy something new other than footwear, pants and socks.

I'm all for maximising the lifespan of things- but someone has the buy them new initially. Clothes and shoes have a finite lifespan so without new clothing entering the marketplace even charity shops would have nothing to sell in the end....

My Mum brought me up on Jumble Sales when I was much younger. I progressed much much later on to Carboots, then Discoverd Charity shops. However Car boots are a gold mine.

Charity Shops are your Reiki

They are indeed. I love them. I happened to be 'the driver' at a funeral just before Christmas. When I say 'the driver' I mean that I had to stay sober to be in the position of whisking a mate off from a wake if it all kicked off - and believe me the potential was there. Anyway, to cut a long story shorter, it meant that I had to stay sober while a load of plastic paddy's got pissed out of their minds in front of a sober me (I had taken a few pharmaceuticals though).

Anyway, bored out of my skull, I decided to leave the wake and go to a charity shop nearby. I hadn't got any jeans that are not covered in glue and paint. So I walk into the first charity shop on that road, and bingo - two pairs of decent jeans at £4.50 a pair.

No need to talk to me about charity shops, really. You'd be preaching to the converted. I just don't do footwear, underwear and socks.
