Volunteering with oasis

Hi there

My friend and I are hopefully volunteering with the oasis carnival this year and It’ll be our first time volunteering at the fest.
we applied to volunteer back in March and got our shift dates and times confirmed and had to send over a deposit. It’s been almost a month since we paid and we haven’t had any confirmation of payments being received or next steps.

im sure they’re running on volunteers so maybe it’s all slow but it’s a lot of money we have given over so wondered if anyone had volunteered with them before and know it’s all ok/legit?

thanks

I volunteered with them a few years back. It was definitely legit (I think the official website was actually advertising them) but also wasn't the best experience - had to arrive at their offsite campsite ready to work on the Monday night, but weren't given our actual festival tickets until about 1am on The Friday morning so missed out on quite a bit. Think that was in 2009 though so hopefully they've changed things a bit since then!

Looking at their website it does say you wouldn't get your festival ticket until 4pm on the Thursday at the earliest

Ah OK, nice to see they're being open about that. I can't remember if it was made clear back then or not. We also had to do a shift Saturday at midnight until 8am which wrote off Saturday night (as it was a long walk out to their camp) and most of Sunday as we were knackered. So all in all it was a fairly long week for only 1 full day at the festival

I too have had shifts confirmed and paid the money -

no word from them since 🤔

getting nervous that I’ve been scammed x

What work did you have to do with them? How many shifts and what hours were the shifts?

As much as I want to go to the festival i'm really put off by this organisation. I get they must have had people dissappear into the festival as soon as they've been given their ticket in the past but what are you supposed to do between Monday and late Thursday/early Friday when you're not on shift if you can't access the festival site?

That is the sucker punch for me. I'm not showing off at all but as a frame of reference, I am on clean up duties with a charity and don't have any shifts until the Tuesday after the festival but am still on site from the Mon/ Tue before having a great time.

It seems a real tough gig the Oasis line

I can imagine for most the shift work with Oasis doesn’t work for most. But it suits me and my husband as we wouldn’t be able to attend the festival until Friday anyway due to other commitments.

Our other shifts are tues and thurs before then we will drive home and our 3rd shift is Saturday night.

Ive just never done volunteering before and handed over a load of money and haven’t heard a bloody thing apart from confirmation of shift times is abit unnerving!

I think my friends parents volunteered with them for a number of years & I’m aware of them as based in my home town. Wonder if they’re a small outfit - they seem to have a Facebook page with some current updates so wonder if it’s worth messaging through that platform for some reassurance. I know lots of the Somerset carnival crews have small stewarding outfits that have places with Glasto which helps them raise funds to run the carnivals each autumn.

They are significant enough to be mentioned on Glastonbury Festival’s “work at the festival” page https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/jobs/ but it’s obvious how small scale their operation is from a quick look at their website. I’ve heard it gets better the more time you work with them (from one person I know).

I’d rule it out immediately based on not getting immediate entry into the festival.  Not for me.
